Which aftermarket brand hood should I get?

I'm struggling to decide what brand I should get for my Ram Air hood. It comes down to Cost, quality/fit, and customer service/warranty.

Re: Which aftermarket brand hood should I get?

I can only speak from my experience.
The shop that did my paint this year told me that they have never seen a hood come in that didnt need some prep work before painting.

I went to www.ramairhood.com and got me one of their SMC plastic ' zero prep ' hoods, and had it sent to my shop. It showed up painted in white looking very, very pretty. unfortunately it wasnt ' zero prep' requiring close to twelve hours of block sanding to get the thing ripple free.

So, just bear in mind that whatever hood you buy, you will have to earmark about eight to twelve hours of labor in order to get it right and looking professional. ..unless it's just a race hood and you dont care.

In additon, if you are doing it for weight savings, here's the real deal:

Steel hood: 58 pounds.
Fiberglass or SMC hood: 38 pounds.

Net savings: 20 pounds.

You can get that much weight out of the car for a whole lot less by replacing your 40 pound battery with a 14 pound Hawker or Genesis gell cell battery. They only cost $159.

Good luck on your hood search, I am partial to ACSD's designs, frankly. That and the RAII that I put on my own car. Here's a picture.

Well I figured it would come down to Harwood and VFN. I was planning on a Harwood because Jegs carries it. Although, I learned that since i'm a member of LS1tech.com I can get a hood from VFN with a discount. I'll save about $70
