2nd project started (even faster)
So I have begun my second project car as I'm finishing up my 97' Z28. My project is this: I will be purchasing a silver 2002 SS camaro and doing a 98-02 to a 93-97 conversion on the front end (yes Im taking a ls car and making it look like a lt car) and making this 02' SS look exactly identical to my 97' Z with the exception of the badges. as of right now I have to the following part.
1. complete lt1 front bumper (with lights and absorber) 2. lt1 front fenders 3. Lt1 SS hood 4. rear wings west ground effects 5. driver and passenger side wings west ground effects parts still needed 1. front wings west ground effect 2. rksport performance rear spoiler Performance goal for this vehicle....spoke with Chad at golen motor works, Chad and his guys at golen will be doing a supercharged 427 Ls7 motor for this vehicle, with a foreseeable hp goal of 820 hp. I cant wait to see the looks on the rustang guys when they have been just slaughtered by this ls7 powered lt1 looking f-body |
Re: 2nd project started (even faster)
my garage. stopped by So.jerZ-28 from ls1tech house last night and picked up the rear bumper cover and rear ground effects along with side skirts

Re: 2nd project started (even faster)
This interests me, but I'm not sure why.

Re: 2nd project started (even faster)
well as we all know the lt1 platform is a fading market, not to mention that the lt1 ignition system (opti) and pcm (tuning) are nightmares in themselves. I have always admired the endless possibilities with the lsx motor but never really found the ls camaro to be eye appealing (the lt's just seem to have this pissed-off look to them) so I figured I would build a car that had the platform to make some serious hp and swap out the front clip to have the look I find pleasing. Also as with my first project car I have been in constant contact with chad over at Golen motor work this project as it will be taking on a supercharged ls7 427. Chad is confident that he can deliver me a motor that puts out over 800hp without breaking a sweat.

Re: 2nd project started (even faster)
awesome stuff, i would keep it street legal and troll all over imports with it.
|
Re: 2nd project started (even faster)
for the most part the car will be street legal I wont be running cats, will do kooks lt headers, with true dual exhaust after the collectors.
Spoke with chad over at golen this is what will be going in a BMR front K-member. http://cdn.speednik.com/files/2012/0...ey-640x478.jpg |
Re: 2nd project started (even faster)
i have to get measurement off the top of the supercharger. I need to find out what is the height of this motor compared to a n/a lsx motor thats running a stock intake manifold. I need to make sure that the SS hood (pictured) will fit. may be doing some cutting to the underside of the hood and reglassing smooth.

Re: 2nd project started (even faster)
I going to need this thread moved to the forced induction section....anyways chad and I spoke again yesterday... unsure if this whipple supercharger will work in a ( lt1 style engine bay w/ stock lt1 SS hood) so we talked about a F1 pro charger only issue there is pluming, Procharger puts their pluming where the the Ls air lid sits....I on this project wont have that nor want that so things are going to get interesting quick.
Just so I'm on the same page with everyone when I say and refer to "Lt1" I'm not speaking of the motor I'm referring to the the body style of those years (93-97') |

Re: 2nd project started (even faster)
i have a 99 camaro i hit a deer and put a 1996 clip on it i like the looks of the 93-97 look better i have to get the hood hinges yet but it wasnt hard to do
|
Re: 2nd project started (even faster)
Can you please send me info/ photo on how you removed the air lid....did you run cia?
|
Re: 2nd project started (even faster)
i took the whole entire air box out i left the piece of tube with the sensor on and just put a aftermarket air filter on it because the 93-97 hood wont close with the air box there u might be able to get the air box from one of the 93=97 and make it fit but all the front clip parts bolt right up just need the bumper reinforcement i had to cut the things on the side tha hold the plastic hood twist thing i cant remember the name of them it only took me like 3 hours

Attachment 4238 So i decided to go with a 408 stroker kit on this build, I'm looking at options for heads and intake? Mike over at ttp says afr heads are not the way to go and suggested at looking at trick flow heads. Any opinions out there? Also what intake should i be looking into anyone running a fast 102? Or should i be looking at a stock intake. And lastly cam options? I like the torque that my lt1 has so i want something that will throw me back in the seat but i also want a ***** load power (700's rwhp) and still be able to get into the car and drive it to the food store. Keeping this also in mind the motor will be running boost. |

got the fenders and headlights off the car. I'll be finishing it this weekend I figured I would post some updates on my progress with the car. I have to block sand the sheet metal interior fender to get rid of some rust, then I'll spray with some silver primer. the front wheels are done and the fenders are now silver and no longer black. all I really have to do now is wire brush the mounting brackets for the fenders and some of the other various mounting brackets that hold this front end together, paint, and reassemble. driver side Attachment 4229 passenger side Attachment 4230 fenders before Attachment 4231 Attachment 4232 fenders now Attachment 4233 Attachment 4234 Attachment 4235 front wheels all done also Attachment 4236 |

I was able to clean up and spray a few parts yesterday to help prevent from future rusting but I have a have few questions on where some of the of this mounting brackets go
here are the fender mounting brackets does anyone have any photos of where they are bolted on to the frame of the car before Attachment 4220 after Attachment 4221 the next two are these, there are obvious a right and left one but where do they mount at before Attachment 4222 Attachment 4223 after Attachment 4224 here are a few other various parts i cleaned up Attachment 4225 Attachment 4226 Attachment 4227 Other then finding the location of those four brackets I'm ready to officially swap the front end out |

sat down with Mike and Matt at TTP yesterday after dropping of the 6.0 block. So the build will look something alittle like this 408 stoker kit, trickflow heads (specifics not determined) D-1 supercharger, 10:1 compression, cam specs, also not determined, Both Matt and Mike informed me "this car will make a easy 750 rwhp w/o sweating"
here are some photos of the ls1 after disconnecting the air box, its not pretty and its on the primitive side but it gets the job done for now and allows me to swap out the front end. Attachment 4214 Attachment 4215 Attachment 4216 Attachment 4217 Attachment 4218 Attachment 4219 |

Attachment 4212 Attachment 4213 I got the Ls bumper cover and bumper absorber off, all the brackets, lights, and everything else that goes along with Ls nose. I was able to mount the Lt bumper absorber. All I have left is to do is sand and paint, bolt on the Lt headlight assembly, connect all lights and start putting on the Lt nose. |

finally got the headlight assembly on and all the the lights connected and working. now all that is left is to sand, spray after i tape off a few things. then i can finally get the body panels back on. this swap has been extremely easy, time consuming but easy. |

hood is on, its looking like a Lt1 more and more
Attachment 4204 Attachment 4205 Attachment 4206 after a couple of hours for some needed rewiring and replacing every bulb all the lights are officially working. I did notice that in the Lt1 if the high beams where turned on the fog lights would turn off leaving the high and low beams on. As for the Ls wiring if the high beams are switched to the on position, the low beams turn off....i guess it will make for even crapper vision while driving at night. HID kit will defiantly be in store for this car. Attachment 4207 was able to get both fenders on, took this photo before i lined everything up |
