Ring Gapping ??

I am gapping my rings right now and I purchased a Summit diamond ring filer. The abrasive wheel is only 1 sided.

Does it matter which side of the gap you file, or should they both be filled almost equally, or doesn't it matter just as long as the gap is correct???

I file one side so on teardown (if you ever do) you can tell if they were touching or not.

I gap my rings by mounting a file in a vise. I only file one side until I get the gap I want.

My C&A electric only does one side. Make sure they are square with each other when squeezed together and held up to a light(sun),no taper or wedge.
