Raising Intake Roof

hey guys looking to see how far i can safely raise the roof on a Stock LT1 Intake. Anyone who has done this know where it needs raised ;) I have raised it 0.070 so far and would like to go 0.100. My fear is going to far and seeing the wrong light ;)

Anyone know how far is safe?

just use your fingers and pinch all areas that ya can. I have no measurement since all castings are a little diff.

Yeah, we've had alot of core shift in some castings... Only way to do it and maintain consistent thickness is to repeatedly measure it.

If you really want to get crazy (like me) take the heads to a shop and have them weld a thick pad on top of the intake ports. Shouldn't cost more than 60-80 bucks to have done. That way you go as high as you want, just be careful when blending the port down into the bowls on the other side of the rocker stud. :)

BTW, I'll be doing this very soon, along with flow testing to see how well it works. I'll be doing a bit of work to the intake also obviously.

Crazy? but we do that all the tim--.. err.. oops ;)

Just measure ellis.. measure! .. and hey, if you break through.. no big deal.. weld it up

Nothin that shouldn't be obvious really :)

Nice duck, watch out here comes another. :)

So I'm debating on whether to just make the port taller and try to maintain volocity, or make it wider also. This is going to be used with a blower if that matters.

Well Mike we have Done that to a few intakes. Make sure the injectors fit before you port ;) Raising the roof on the intake port seems to me like it would be of little help if the intake port is not raised to match it?

I am just using a standard snap gauge and making them all the same. I am right at .070 on the two ports I have done. Think I will make the other six match and call it good. I am not really porting the intake as much as raising the roof. it just getts so small :D I still want port velocity and the intake to flow with the heads;). Other then raiseing the roof I am just cleaning them up.

Thanks Lloyd and Phil ;)

BTW it only cost me $90 to convert a LT1 intake into a LT4 intake with a FULLY raised roof....and I can paint it any color I want ;)

EDIT Oh yeah Mike watch out with your porting and boost. I blew a hole through and intake back in 98 with only 14# of boost ;)
