Cutaway vs. full body lifters?

I was looking at some lifters the other day and it struck me that I don't really know anything about the relative merits of the diifferent solid roller lifter body styles. Cutaway or solid body. As pictured here http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Ca...ML/JPG/285.jpg you can see what I mean about the different styles, in case I am not explaining myself clearly.

Any comments on the merits of the two styles?

Thanks.

Other than the obvious lighter weight (less mass) I don't see too many other advantages. Of course, mass is a biggy at very high r's. No way to a run rev kit, but that's what lower mass lifter eliminates. Possibly a little less sliding friction.

Don't cutaways require longer pushrods? The lifter body is stiffer than the pushrod, so using larger diameter pushrods would probably help. Of course if you are running 7500+ anyway 3/8 or larger are probably in the mix. If you aren't at those kind of revs, maybe a solid body would be just fine.

With severe SR profiles, the rebuildable Comp Supers make sense to me. (page 291 in catalog) Too bad they don't sell a DIY kit of rollers, needles and pins. Hmmm....

Thanks for the reply. That's pretty much the way I reasoned it out but wanted to hear what others thought.

It's always nice when a "second opinion" agrees with your diagnosis, huh?

Re: Cutaway vs. full body lifters?

I was wondering the same thing the other day. The solid body ones weigh about 20 grams more, but what would be the reason for going one over the other? Hmm...
