Allison 5-Speed auto.

I'm getting interested in this tranny but I am amazed at how little info there is on it.

Does anyone know the following?

What are it's physical dimensions?
What ratios are available for it, for each of it's five gears?
Can it be done as a "no-electronics", full manual tranny like the 4L80E?
If not, are the factory electronics easilly mated to LT1/LS1 engine electronics?
Any technical info on these wanted.

I do know they take about 17 quarts of oil and they are supposed to be physically huge.
A guy I know on another board described it as: "This thing is at least twice the size of a TH400 and it is larger than my toyota auto and transfer-case combined.

They are huge. Go to a Chevy/GMC dealer and find a truck to look under. It looks about the same size as a 350 block! Also, if you are thinking of using one there would be a LOT of issues besides size. You mention ratios, then there's cost, how to contol it, etc.

Interesting thoght though. I'll bet they are mucho dinero.

Here are some specs: http://www.allisontransmission.com/p...tionsheets.jsp

Note the following:
Length (SAE No. 3 flywheel housing to park brake mounting provision) 27.35 in (694.7 mm)
Length (SAE No. 2 flywheel housing to park brake mounting provision) 27.73 in (704.4 mm)
Depth (below transmission centerline) 11.22 in (284.9 mm) - standard oil pan
Depth (below transmission centerline) 10.71 in (272.0 mm) - shallow oil pan
Weight (dry) 330 lbs (150 kg)

Add 13 quarts of fluid and it's nearly as heavy as an LS1 motor!

That is heavy.

I guess on the bright side it'll put that mass dead center in the car.

Thanks for the link.

I think I asked this question about the Allison 1000 5-speed about 3 months ago, and got the same response. If you would like some actual dimensions, a friend of mine has one behind a Vortec 8.1L engine.

Sure, that'd be cool.

He doesn't need to take a mike to it, just a basic idea would be good.
