Advice needed on how to fabricate a plug & mold for carbon fiber layups

I want to create a carbon fiber targa top for third-gen F-bodies, but I haven't figured out how to make a quality plug and mold. Essentially I want to create a one-piece carbon fiber top with nine aluminum inserts so that it can be fastened to custom mounts that are retrofitted into the T-top channels.

I want to create a plug that would then get used in the fabrication of a two-piece mold for vacuum bagged & autoclaved carbon fiber components.

Anyone have some fabrication experience that would be willing to share some tips? I need to be able to create the molds at home. There's a shop in town that could probably evacuate the mold and autoclave the part for me, but they aren't interested in creating the mold.

www.fiberglast.com has all the info your looking for.

Try this book:

Fiberglass & Composite Materials by Forbes Aird. It's HP Books # 1239 published by The Berkely Publishing Group.

Here's a link:Fiberglass & Composite Materials

I'd use the styrofoam plug method detailed in Chapter 12.
