worth swaping to a lt1?
Hi. iīve tried searching but strangly i couldnīt find any answer. but is it worth the time and money to put in a lt1 engine instead of upgrade the 350 tpi? i saw on ebay that i could get a new 383 stroker block for nearly the same price as a used lt1 engine. the car will only go on the streets and maybe on track someday.

Re: worth swaping to a lt1?
HP is in the topend MUCH MUCH more so than increasing the displacement so don't think for a moment that putting a 383 under stockish TPI heads/intake is going to net you much in the way of a result.
I really don't know a lot about the TPI setups so I can't really say much on that side of it |

Re: worth swaping to a lt1?
Not worth it for what you need it for. Lt1 isnt that much faster stock for stock. Ive owned both. Lt1 has a little better top end, but tpi has almost 30lbs more torque at the wheels. Torque is what you want on the street. Now that's if tpi and all its sensors are in good shape because they are temperamental beasts.

Re: worth swaping to a lt1?
They arent cheap, but they are very well made, but get a set of dyno don headers. Long tubes and thirdgens dont mix since the Trans tunnel is so small. Dd headers are the best you can by and make really good power. After that, bump up the timing to 10*, maybe an adj fuel pressure regulator, 1.6 roller rockers, transgo shift kit STAY AWAY FROM B&M, a vette servo. All that plus a 3000 lock up stall and some drag radials should net you low 13s. But it will take off like a mid 12 second car. Tpi is fun.

Re: worth swaping to a lt1?
May I suggest, if you are going to make a swap, do an LS swap. An easy 400 hp with stock parts.
Just sayin' |

Re: worth swaping to a lt1?
It depends on if you want to do all the work of a LT1 swap. The LT1 camaro is a full second faster at the track than a tpi camaro and gets better gas mileage. For more money you could do the LS1 swap also.
