tpi injection on vortec 350????
Well I just bought a 1986 IROC Z28 is has a 305tpi and a 700r4.... The engine smokes so I figure I wouldnt waste money on rebuilding a 305 and just upgrade to a 350...
i have a vortec 350 out of a 1997 chevy pickup that needs rebuilt and I was just thinking about rebuilding it and using all the tpi injection on it... I thought about just getting the heads redrilled for the old style bolt pattern but after looking at the runners I think the vortec runners will be too long?
I was woundering is if anyone has used one of the tuned port SDPC or edelbrock lower intake for vortec heads? Do they work good? any problems with them?
Is there anything else i halfto worry about/change running the tpi injection on a vortec 350?

Re: tpi injection on vortec 350????
It works! I have that setup. I bought the SDPC TPI base for vortec heads. Some other mods to the engine are LT4 springs, ZZ4 Cam, head work to fit the springs and match the cam, and SLP 1 3/4th headers. Pulls about 290 rwhp and 370 rqwtq. This is with the stock TPI runners, plenum, and Throttle Body. I have thought about going to a Stealth Ram Intake or using some larger runners.
I did the swap 7 years ago so i am slowly remembering everything. I had the transmission built to handle the new power. I have 22lb injectors. I changed to a hi-flow fuel pump and put some hi-torque parts in my stock starter. Flexplate is larger and ran into the cover, had to modify. I remounted the coil to the firewall. I used some colder A/C Delco plugs. Tuned by Ed Wright (before i realized the fuel pump was going). Installed a Stewarts hi flow water pump. Etc. Etc. As with any build.. you will figure it out along the way.
When my dad and I planned the build, everyone was running 12's with their mostly stock 99-02 fbodies so i built a 12.x car. I am so out of the loop I don't know what i would do today.

Re: tpi injection on vortec 350????
you will need to re tune and install larger injectors as the 305 came with 19 LB injectors and 350 cars use 22 LB units. the vortec will be a good move as it is a better flowing head.
another plus is the 97 block "should" be a roller so theres no worry of rolling a lobe like the 86 block being its a flat tappet motor.
