is their supposed to be a seal or grommet that goes around the pcv valve

is their a rubber washer or some kind of seal that is supposed to be around where the pcv valve goes, i dont have one and it seems like this would let air in through the sides, can i use some black silicone?? or should i leave it alone.

Yes, a rubber grommet should be there by rights. If it's gone, and the pcv valve is loose when it's in the hole, get a new grommet. Don't gum it up with RTV sealant. All you need is some of that getting into the valve train and wreeking all kinds of havoc.

i think the idiots at the shop that the old owner used to go to cut the vac hose too short that goes to it and its all tilted to make it fit and wouldnt fit otherwise...they also aparantly think that many hose clamps are optional, which led to my last probelm with a crazy idle becasue the hose going to the air injection solinoid popped off,
so i still got a box of chocolates under my hood i never know what im going to see next
i actually had bubble gum holding the wire that goes to the idle load solenoid
hahaha

Bubble gum, theres a new one. LOL. I love those shops that don't seem to understand vacuum lines and just jimmy rig them like they don't matter.

Go to the GM counter and ask for the PCV valve grommet.

i feel uneasy if i'm not there watching them (mechanics) fix my car, it makes them a little mad but also speeds up the job saving me money. plus i know its done right :D

I hire my mechanics for cash on the side. That way they don't complain when I watch and I can make sure it is done right and they tend to pay more attention because although I am paying less than shop rate, it is more than they would get for the job if I went thru the shop so everyone is happy.

Edit: Just to make CamaroZ28Coupe happy, Everyone I care about is happy. :D :D

Grommets are available in the HELP section of auto parts stores for cheap.
