Stuffing An Ls1/t56 In A '89 Rs

I Know I Posted This A Long Time Ago, But I've Gotta Total Wreck I Can Buy For Nothing That Has A Good Ls1/t56 Driveline. I Have A '89 Rs With A 305tbi/700r4 That's Got 165k On The Clock. The Motor's Giving Me Some Trouble & The Transmission's Getting Soft. I'd Like To Stick The Driveline From The '99 T/a In My Car. I'd Also Like To Switch Out The Rear-end If Possible. What Kinda Mods Am I Looking At? Since I'm Switching From An Auto To A Stick, Is The Computer Gonna Be A Problem? Any Tips Would Be Grrreatly Appreciated...thanks!

yea but they will cost you an arm, and maybe 2 legs....5 grand for just the motor and like 300 i believe for motormounts...the brackets and whatnot aren't bad but the rest of his stuff is expensive...i would suggest go to a junkyard or ebay to get the motor and trans...just my $.02

Okay, I just lost the deal on the donor car I was buying. YAARRGGHHHH!!!! I do have a possible donor car on the hook however. It's a '93 Vette, totaled (major) but it only has 23K on the clock & the driveline is in great shape besides a bent accessory bracket. It's gotta LT1 350/6-speed. Is this a more straight-forward swap? I don't care about the rear-end, all I want is the engine & tranny. Also, in case this deal falls through like the last one, do any of you guys know of a good source for donor cars? Thanks!

C4 Vettes do not have T56s, they have a different transmission. You would be better off with a T56.

Actually I read ZR1 forums occaionally, and the general consensus is that the 6 speed in those (if its teh same as the regular C4, is stronger than tehe T-56. Downfall being that its more expensive to fix if it breaks. I cant remember for the life of me what they are called ATM.

If I remember right it is a german made transmission called a ZF, and you're right, its expensive to repair.

And....it requires that you beat on the trans tunnel to install it. It is not a "drop in" like the T56 (I've done t5 and t56 swaps in 3rd gen cars). That is a good transmission, but it may be more trouble than it's worth to install in an F-body.

My thoughts.

Anyone have any idea what kind of performance you could expect after the swap.

I say if you're going to bother with a swap like that, go with an LS1/T56....

Contemporary Corvette in Bristol, Pa (http://www.contemporarycorvette.com/) sells motor/trans combos out of wrecked vettes and F-bodies all the time. My buddy just bought an LS1/T56 with only 11k miles out of a '99 SS for $4500. He's doing heads/cam and turbo, and dropping it in his '83 Z28 :D

The Hybrid forums on LS1Tech.com are a great resource for anyone who is swapping an LS1 into their car.

EDIT: He's selling the T56 (with clutch, pedals, pressure plate) for $2k...pm me if you're interested.
