Sevice Engine Soon Light--EGR Valve?

Question Sevice Engine Soon Light--EGR Valve?

Over the past few months, my SERVIC ENGINE SOON light continued to come on after driving for long stretches. I had a diagnostic test done and it showed a code 32--which is a EGR Valve problem. Over the weekend I replace the EGR Valve wity a new one, as well has changing the vaccum lines.

My problem is---the SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT continues to come on as before. I ran a diagnostic test again this morning, and it is still showing a EGR Valve problem. I have already disconnected power to the computer to reset it, but without any success. I am think I may have a vacuum leak still.

What do you guys think? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. That orange light is driving me crazy--esp. at night.

The EGR controller solenoid is probably bad, it's located near the distributor, it's where the vacuum line from the EGR goes to. It gets vacuum from the intake and regulates the amount of ported vacuum that the EGR will recieve, and when it should get it.
Replace the solenoid and pull the ECM fuse to clear codes...

Code 32 isn't specifically for the EGR valve. It's EGR system failure. It could be your EGR solenoid or one of the hard vacumn lines leading to it could be clogged...etc. Your best bet is to go through the EGR system piece by piece and work it from there. Luckily enough it's not really a complicated system. If you have a Chiltons or Haynes manual that'll explain the components of your EGR system a little better.

I wouldn't suggest pulling the fuse for the ECM to clear codes. Theres a chance you could fry your computer when replacing the fuse. There should be a piggyback connector in your engine compartment coming off the postive side of the battery. That connector is made to disconnect the ECM from any power source.
It has a built in surge protector to protect it from surges and such when plugging it back in.

Thanks guys for those suggestions. I will replace the solenoid tomorrow.

Also, to clear the codes, I was unplugging the pigtail like you guys suggested.

Try driving the car around for a couple days ,clear the code out when you shut it off for the night.when i changed mine ,the damn light came on for a few days ,and after about 40 miles it stopped ,and hasn't come on since.I don't know if i got lucky or what , but it worked for me
