My dad is saying that camaro's have alot of problems. Is this true?

Depending on how well the owners before you took care of the car. Some like mine has problems due to lack of Maintace done to the car before me.

I think it depends on the preveious owener and how he treated the car. Most Camaros were beaten to death just going from stop light to stop light,because of the nature of the beast(have to beat fords). That's not to say there are no good ones out there because there are alot of them,you just have to be chossie when you look. All cars have some problems you just have to learn what they are ,and learn how to fix them.

I found that Z28s are rather cheap to fix in many aspects and easy to work on (especially the V6 since the engine bay is made for an 8). I got an 89 firebird for $750 over a year ago and the only problems were a battery and starter. Not bad at all IMO.

IROC-T had it pretty much bang on. Most of the 2.8 V6's will run forever as long as they have had basic maintenance like plugs and oil done regularly, because it has fairly low stress on all of the cars components. But if you buy a 5.7L iroc/z28 from someone like me who hammers the gas at every other stop light be prepared to replace or rebuild the entire drive train of the car (so everything from engine, torque converter, tranny, rear end etc). The basic rule is if you beat on it youre going to break parts, its just the nature of cars in general. The way i look at it is im just trying to save up money so that everytime a major part breaks i can just replace it with an aftermarket piece that will never break again.

Now he's sayin he'd rather have me get a mustang. I dont get it..

Mustangs are made to sell. Camaros are made to drive. That's about it for that comparison.

Every make or model has its quirks. The mustang is a good choice for you if you dont really want power and the ease of upgrades. GM is the way to go. I have had both kinds of cars Fox body(mustang) and Fbody(camaro)... I spent more money while trying to upgrade the mustang than I did with my camaro. Its not that the mods were hard or anything its just a fact that Ford parts are more expensive and good Ford mechanics are far and between. In the end its all about your taste and what you really want. TELL DAD YOU WANT THE CAMARO!! lol

If your talking 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Gen. then the answer is NO.
In a year to year comparison Camaro's had no more problems than any other U. S. manufactured car.

If your talking 4th Gen. LS1 the answer is NO. But the LT1 did get a reputation for engine leaks that caused many to be put off by them.

P.S. But Camaro's look so much better!!!!
