Re: passing emissions

Dude, here I am. I bought a 1986 305 Z28 in January and totally failed emissions. I spent about $1300 to get it to pass. Here is my list of what to check and you can work from there.

1. EGR System: make sure you have an intake manifold with the EGR system attached and working.
2. AIR (Smog) Pump: make sure you have a smog pump, that a belt is attached to have it running, and that it has the goods inside to work.
3. Catalytic Converter: make sure you have one, it's not hollow, and it is not burnt out.
4. EEC: check the EEC canister (driver side, front of the engine bay) and that the hoses run from the air cleaner to it, and from the fuel tank to it.
5. PCV valve: check to be sure it is there, hooked up properly, and working.

You can get that baby to pass, but it may take investment if your car is devoid of emissions controls like mine was. You may just need to repair an existing part whereas I had to PUT THEM ON in the first place! With the work done, the car was very, very clean.
