Paper air filters vs. "Special" filters

Is there really a difference between the 2? Will the cotten gauze filter really filter any better then a regualr paper filter? Will I actually notice a performance increase? Also, is K&N re-usable filter any better then a Summit brand re-usable filter? Both are made from the same material. Is it worth the extra $50?

Re: Paper air filters vs. "Special" filters

I am not saying K&N are not good but I no longer run one. I gained 1 RWHP buy going from a 1 year old K&N to a used paper airfilter. Also the K&N was cleaned 2 weeks prior to the dyno. I then did the next dyno run without an airfilter and gained nothing.

Interesting. So maybe there isn't really any gain from the K&N filters after all. Maybe all they do is filter better....

there probably is very little of a gain, but the way I look at it, if you air filters are junk or really dirty...you mines well do it right and just buy some K&N's...i mean they aren't gonna hurt...it makes one less restrictive part on your motor...

Re: Paper air filters vs. "Special" filters

not a big k&n fan. too many problems.. i went to a paper one after that, but now my work had spokespersons in fron green filters ( i work at a automotive aftermarket part distributor) and green filter does not use a cotton gauze. they actually use a fabric more like a cotton t shirt so it does not break apart... supposed to last longer. and actually has much more air flow.

my 2 cents

ps... also kinda cool because the normally come in a green color, but you can get them in white, red, black, blue, orange and so on.. not to sound like a ricer but its kinda cool they offer more than 1 color

My buddy runs a Green filter on his 454SS - no noticable power difference, but it looks much more well made than his old K&N
