It could be had with any stock gear ratios if special ordered.

That's....****ing...obvious. I just bought a new tahoe, it came with a towing package and autoride. I paid extra for it. Does that mean it doesn't come stock? No. It just means it's an option. Doesn't mean I ordered the truck that way, it was on the lot with all those specific options.

He is saying that since it was a cost option, it wasn't a standard item and you can't really say what car to look for to get a posi rear end from.
Example. if you want WS6 springs and sway bars, only the Formulas had them stock, the Trans Am's had an option for them so if you get the bars from a Trans Am, it's not guaranteed to be WS6 parts but if you got them from a Formula, they are.

Re: Only Right Wheel Has Power...
I think the breakdown in communication happened because you said they didnt come "stock." So depending on what you consider stock, its easy to take that the wrong way. Stock could mean "base model with no options" as you are saying, or it could mean "came from the factory this way" like iansane is saying (and also happens to be the way I see it). But it dosnt really matter anyway, no need to argue about it. What came "stock" in any way you define stock dosnt always mean thats whats actually on the car since they are all 10+ years old. What matters is taking the cover off and checking if there is any doubt in the owners mind. I've had to do this myself when making junkyard runs.
