LT1 Heads, started mod'ing today, need help

Ok guys, started modding the heads. Check out http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/400090/9 for details.

I only did one plug and need to know if it is good or not. Will it be able to be welded properly, or should I try to make it exactly flush with the surface? Here are the two pictures I've got. Sorry for the mad blur:

I was under the impression that you wanted the caps to sit down in the water passage a bit so the head could be surfaced correctly. I think your best bet would be to consult with the person doing the welding and the person doing the machining just to be sure. Looking good though.

Ps. Are you going to have any port work done on these heads? I highly recommend an econo job to get the best results.

I was anticipating just having him weld around the outside, then was going to have the heads decked (0, no angle). Will that work?

I've been using a big 4" angle grinder so it's really a pain. I might just have to go buy a nice die grinder so it's easier.

NOTE: Lloyd Elliot is going to do just a little porting....

I'm just guessing, but it seems that if you set the plates down inside the coolant passages, you wouldn't have to worry about the surfacing machine eating through a weld or ripping one of the plugs out while it's doing its thing. I think you definately need to discuss this with a qualified machinist.
