knock sensor

1991 camaro z28 5.7 tpi

where is the knock sensor located? i cant find any diagrams of where my knock sensor is on my car.

What does it look like? i keep getting different pictures of what it looks like.

tgates 05-06-2009 05:46 PM

i found something with a weir pluged into it between my last 2 plugs on my passenger side.
it looked bad, it was very rotted and it seemed to be broke at the end.

Doubt that's the knock sensor. on the 3rd gens the knock sensor is either on the lower part of the block just above the oil pan or at the rear of the right cylinder head

If you have the haynes manual it shows a clear picture. I have the firebird manual but the motors are the same for a firebird or camaro. My manual shows a clear picture of it on page 6-10. If you do not have one you could check your local libray and see if they have the manual.

yeah that's where i looked up to give him the location. I don't have a 350 though so i don't know exactly which location it is for him

its right by the starter and motor mount.

tgates 05-08-2009 10:37 PM

thanks man, im going to try and replace it now.

tgates 05-08-2009 10:38 PM

is that on the the driver or passenger side????

SupplySgt. 05-09-2009 09:43 PM

should be driver's side. if i remember correctly when it says right side it means driver's side because that's what on the right when you're looking at it.

your wrong. Left is driver side and right is passenger side. Determining left or right is as if your sitting in the car. The knock sensor is on the right side of the car, or, passenger side.

that would be your fan switch if what you are describing is by the oil dipstick tube and by the exhaust manifolds. might wanna look into a new one or a version that turns your fans on sooner

its a space ship round looking thing where 86camaro383 stated. be sure you drain the coolant as when you pop the KS its located in a coolant passage and if your doing this right after you ran the car run the risk of getting burned.

tgates 05-11-2009 03:45 PM

cool. im going to look into it when i get a chance. i will report back if i have any problems.

tgates 05-17-2009 08:33 PM
