Cold Air Intake

Cold Air Intake
I just bought an 89 IROC that's in kind of rough shape. Needs lots of TLC.

I was wondering what would be the best way to help it breathe.
I was thinking about 2 different ways.
1. Taking off the stock intake tubing and putting on one of the square air filter assemblies that mount right on the throttle body. Then I thought about it being behind the radiator and figured that would kind of defeat the purpose.
2. Install K&N or equivalent high flow filters and trim the filter housing to move more air with less restriction.
How do you guys have it done?
Also, What kind of spark plugs do you guy's recommend. I would like to go with NGK's. I run them in my 95 Z28 and they've been good. BTW what would be the gap setting for the L98? Thanks a bunch.

cut the bottom of the air box...
if you really want to get crazy you can fashion a ram air setup from behind the fog lights up to the bottom of the air box. did it on my 87 iroc and it gave impressive gains on the highway.
