I want an LT1 in my V6 3rd gen! What do I need ?
I was going to buy a 1991-1992 F-body with an L98, LB9, or LO3 engine, but recently my parents offered to give me their 1991 RS with the LHO 3.1L V6. This has been a great engine, but I need alot more than 140 horsepower to Beat the imports and mustangs at my school. So I was wondering what I would need to put an LT1 in there. I have a 700R4 and I want to stick with automatic. Please tell me what I need to replace or beef up in order to perform this sick swap. Only the essentials please. I'm limited to about three grand. I found the engine on www.one-trickpony.com,(good used parts supplier in Miami)for $900. Any info is helpful,Thanks. Nick
forget the LT-1 and go with an LS-1, just about the same price new. and I would only buy a new engine. You will only be taking on someone elses head aches. With a new crate LS-1 you also get a warrenty on the engine. Go to www.paceparts.com and look up some prices. for the price you'll pay for a used LT-1, computer, and tranny just go buy an LT-1 camro or firebird you would be better off. just my .02

I think you can get a "painless" harness from summit for around $350. you can get a pcm from a 94-95 car on the forsale boards all the time. that'd be the simplest route. dont forget you need all the accessories from an lt1 also cause the orig. ones wont fit. you should be able to find alot of info by searching the web or try www.thirdgen.org also, Im pretty sure the tranny you have wont work. it has a diff. bolt pattern and is weaker inside then a v8 tranny. after all that, you 'll need to get a custom program. for that you can go to www.pcm4less.com they are pretty reasonable. I think its gonna be hard to get it all for under the $3k you have. good luck though. chris

1994 comlplete drop in swap LT1 and 4l60e trans for a thirdgen, Aluminum heads, about 40,000 on them,MAF system, complete engine with all accs and fuel injection, Wring harness modified for thirdgen plug in the computer and hook up the 10 underdash wires and go,VATS bypass module (I was just going to eliminate VATS from the PCM but I have this), all hoses and sensors, new plugs and wires, Hooker headers, new serpentine belt, A/C has been deleted so has the smog pump(its pointless anyway),Fuel lines included, Engine is super clean inside and out, I was trying to get rid of them before for $2000 but after I made the wiring harness and put some more money in it I would like to get 2500 for them, It will drop in a thirdgen and go

Thanks for the help and info guys. Don, would that hook up with my rear end or would I need a new one? Remember I have a V6 (I don't know if that matters). I wish you did'nt live so far away.
While an LT1 or LS1 would be retro and cool- I highly recommend building an old school 355 with good heads and a decent cam.
You can get more for your money- and hey...you have more options.
