well, I actually took the header wrap off and it looks like no. 3 & 5 are gettin hot. I was told that they are cracked at the collector. I"m going to have the header inspected by a shop and go from there. I figure, if they are cracked due to heat soak from teh wrap, I"m gonna fork out the cash for new ones...coated. I hope they will be able to fix my current header, we will see next week.......I HATE MY CAR! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrr

If the header is cracked at the flange (upper),I would think that you would be getting exhast blow-by and would be able to hear it,and if the metal tube is cracked with that much heat it would have melted through by now and you would deffanitly hear that. The lower flange shouldn't make just #5 glow if it affects anything at all. You might have a bad or sticky lifter(?),you might try some Marvel Mystery Oil and see if that helps.

Sorry, I meant to say that since I took off the header wrap, both no. 3 & 5 are glowing by the collector. Wonder if it is cracked between the two? I'll find out next week.

Outside air could be pulled in causing the o2 to see a lean condition, add fuel and then have the fuel burned off while it is still exiting the cylinder.

I am not so sure you should even be worried about the glowing header. The headers on my Mustang would glow like that. I took out the plugs and they read fine. Can't argue with that.

I say fix what problems you have and don't worry about the pretty red color

^^^ negative. header tubes shouldnt glow "under normal conditions"

header tubes can glow under hard conditions (top speed run, under boost, etc.) IMO

I know you ran a compression test, but did you run a leak-down test? If the two tubes are side-by-side you could have a bad head gasket between the cyclinders. This could cause this problem to happen also. Just a thought you may have already tried.

Yep, I did EVERYTHING! Leak down tests showed nothing! Gona take the headers off tomorrow and have them checked. Just took the drivers side header off and it seems to look OK. I can not see any cracks, but I"m gonna have them checked anyways. I gotta be sure!

Well, the freaking headers are cracked! Like a dumb ***, I put header wrap on. Never used it before and thougth I would give it a try...........bad idea! Once the shop put heat to it, it looked like a cracked egg shell! Now, I"m getting some coated headman shorty's. Also, What cam would work best with my set up? AFR 190 heads, tpi ported plentum and slp runners matched, 24lb injectors...... If my headers still glow on no.3 and 5, the only thing left to suspect is the cam is not ground correclty. I figure it's time for a new cam if my tubes glow red....... Any suggestions? been thinking of the zz4, lt4 hot cam, and compucam 2032.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I ran header wrap on an s-10 where space was cramped. Never again.. had to repair the header. However, it started back up again 6 months later, and I threw thim in my junk pile and bought a new set.. I'm not a big fan of header wrap.

if you want speed, look for a slightly bigger cam. drivability wont be affected much, but emissions might......

keep it under 230 @.050 and i think you will be ok with the TPI.... might need a slight tune with anything bigger than the ZZ4 tho.

hope the headers fix it.

Pull the injector out of the rail. See if there is any trash pluging the injector. If there is nothing try this. put #5 on the intake stroke, plug an air line in the plug hole, set pressure at about 30-40 psi and you should only here air out of the TB.
