Distributor Gear/Cam Match Question

I'm installing a Street & Performance multi-port fuel injection system on my GM ZZ3 crate motor with the roller cam. The distributor that came with the F.I. unit is a 88-92 factory HEI with remote coil. Question....does this factory gear match up with roller cam concerning hardness as I've read how important it is to match the distributor gear with the cam. I would appreciate any advice from the experts out there!

you need a steel melonized gear for what your doing, that or a poly gear from comp. they have diferent sizes so mic your shaft before you call the. .490 is the smallest they offer and if your dizzy is the one im thinking then your shaft will be a .428 and you will have to do what i did and have a sleeve made. luckily for me i worked at COMP at the time and i had access to the guys in the cam shop and he spun me one up on the lathe.

just check your shaft to be sure. if its a .490 or larger then your able to yse a poly gear.

go to your GM dealer and get a replacment gear and you should be in good shape.
