the clicking, blinking choke light....

Hey guys,
I'm new here! i sold my 97' Z a few years when the kids were on the way, now i'm back in the saddle with an '86 iroc 305cid 4bbl.
the car was it pretty good overall shape. all original! the engine runs ok (needs a tune bad) but after about 30 seconds running the choke comes on blinking and clicking. as you push on the gas the speed of the clicking and blinking increases. Is there really a problem with the choke or is this an electrical problem?

The CHOKE light is a dual purpose light. It will illuminate with either a choke or charging system malfunction. While electrical chokes do go bad, the charging system is the more likely culprit - especially if its flickering. I'll bet you need an alternator.
