Camel backs, 882`s or 1.94 305 heads

well in a different post I found out the camel backs that I`m buyin are crap  wish I knew that 48 hours ago, So I building a 350 with a stock bottem end and I have a set of camel backs, 882`s and 1.94 intake 305 heads the camel backs and the 305 heads have alittle porting work done, which heads do I use???, since there all crap which are less crap?, I also have 4 intakes and 2 holleys

So parts I have to build a 350

882`s, Camel backs or 305 heads
Edelbrock Bowtie Victor Jr and performer intakes
Factory cast 350 intake and a offy dual plane dual port intake
.480 and a .454 lift cams
750 Holley/BG DF DP MS, 600 Holley SF SP VS,

I was going to go with the Camel backs the Victor Jr and the .480 lift cam with the 750 Holley since I thought that it would easy get me to the 400hp range, well I found out it won`t, it`ll get me 325 if I`m lucky and be a dog off the line with such a big intake, So I`m lost, of the parts I listed which will get the most power and off the line grunt?

Some affordable & decent heads, I went with World Products 67CC 1.940/1.500 for my 350 TPI.

Ya if I was going to buy more heads I`d think about the World heads or a set of Vortecs BUT I`m not buyin anymore heads since I `m just about finished payin off the Camel backs, the only parts I can use are what I listed

Update- I traded the offy intake for a Holley 650 DP DF MS

Doing stock iron Vortec heads will give the best power for a stock iron head. Small ports but they flow like mad compared to old stockers. Match it with an RPM Air Gap, 9.5:1 comp, and a decent cam and it's very possible to touch 400hp with accesories/water pump, etc. Trying 10:1-10.5:1 and a VERY aggressive solid cam, a Super Victor Vortec, and you'll have 425+. Additional pocket porting, valvework, runner porting, bigger springs, machining valveguides and a Roller cam in the .550"+ range would do wonders.:D

www.sdpc2000.com has some good Vortec head/intake p[ackages with the modified heads included, bolts, gaskets, etc.

If you have $1800 to spare I'll sell you my E-Tec 200 top end package. Heads/Intake/Distributor/gaskets/bolts/Pro Mag Roller rockers/Pushrods/. Link is here for details!

Oops I'll chose from your list too.

I'd do the 305 heads/Performer intake/.454 cam/600 holley.

You must use new valvesprings however. If you swap new springs, it would be wise to do a valvejob for a good seal and more power. Goodluck!

If I pull the heads off the 305 I won`t touch them, they had a valve job and new crane springs last spring so they only have 10 000 km`s on them. A hard 10 000km`s but the spings should still be good. all those parts you choose are on my 305 right now it`s a nice combo probly LT-1 terratory, LS-1 on a 350 :)

The thing that pisses me off is your choice is exactly what I was going to run But smart me thought a set of camels back would kicks ass with my Victor Jr that I bought them, oh well, Camel backs go for $900-1200 around here I bought them for $600 so I`ll sell em for $1000 and make some money

Re: Camel backs, 882`s or 1.94 305 heads

Sticking to a GOOD ORIGINAL PROVEN plan is important, I have about $2400 into my E-Tec 200 heads and $350 into the intake and I'm not even using them. I went to a $1200 set of darts with a $200 intake and it's going to make more power.:(

Asking $1800 for the E-tecs and a TON of supporting parts kills me but recouping some cash is something I'd love to do. They're expensive paperweights right now!!

If your 305 heads have good newer springs, use the .480 lift cam. It's probably going to raise the powerband a little higher.

Re: Camel backs, 882`s or 1.94 305 heads

If all I had to pay was 1800 for your heads I`d probly pick them up BUT, since thats 1800 US it`s like $2200 Can, then to ship those bad boys would be alot then boreder fee`s I`d be dropin like $3000 on your heads so not worth it for me, so good luck selling them.

I`d go with the bigger cam with the 305 heads BUT will the 305 heads hold a .480 lift? , thats getting to be a huge lift for 305 heads, hell don`t the Vortecs hit the valve guides with a .475 lift?, I know the Crane springs will hold a .480 lift but I`m not sure about the heads.

You got me there. Asking a question like that almost doesn't matter. It's best to check coil bind by removing it from the head. Measure valveguide height while it's off, etc.

Re: Camel backs, 882`s or 1.94 305 heads

well what are you going to run for pistons dished flat tops domes
is it an auto or stick if auto what stall converter
882 are 76cc heads and will flow alot more air than the 305 heads will
as far ase the cam goes what is the duration of the cams either cam as far as lift goes will work but whats the duration
what is the intended purpose.

I just built a new motor myself 327 Im runing a set of 76 cc heads with dome top pistons a 490 lift cam with a duration of 230 and 236
an edelbrock eps dual plane intake and 600 carb heddars and and a complete
ignition system from msd and im hoping to get about 375hp

so throwing just parts that you have laying around together isnt going to make the power you are looking for sit down and be realistic in your goals
and reserch everything befor you start building

Re: Camel backs, 882`s or 1.94 305 heads

I used a set of L69 305 heads on a 350 w/flat tops once, 224* cam. Very nice street engine. I had a set of 041 64cc heads off of a 70 SS 350 at the same time. I measured the ports on the 041 and L69 heads. I was surprised that the intake ports on the L69s were about the same size as the "performance" 041s. Exaust ports were a little smaller. The 305 chambers were ~ 59 ccs, enough to give compression a nice little boost. I gave the L69s a bowl cleanup, matched the intake ports to the gasket, and popped them on.

I wouldn't use a cam with >224* with any of those heads. By the time the payback from a bigger cam starts to kick in at higher rpm, the factory head ports are throwing in the towel. You would give up low end power, with no payoff at the top.

Victor jr is too big, factory intake too small, not familiar with the offy, performer a little too small. Still, I'd go with the performer.

I don't like mech secondary carbs on typical street car. So I'd go with the 600 vacuum secondary. It will give you the best low end response, without giving up much, if anything, at higher rpm.

That L69 headed 350 went into a 69 Camaro with an M21 Muncie and a 3.73 12 bolt. Eventually ended up in my brothers hands, but has never been down the track. I'm super curious to see how it will do. He's been working on it to get it ready to go in the Fall when the weather cools off around here. Can't wait. Pics of the 69 on my sad little site:
