Re: Cam choices for my stealthram'd 383

if I switch to 1.6 rockers..with my cam..what will that make the duration/lift? does that change much and will it affect much?

1.6 rockers compared to 1.5 rockers will add .030 of lift(approx) and as far as duration...it adds about 2 degrees to both intake/exhaust if you put 1.6 rockers on both.

Re: Cam choices for my stealthram'd 383

I told him that may use NO on this motor but forgot to ask if the cam will be ok for that...will it? or do cams have to be spec'd out for nitrous use?

Usually NOS cams are +8 degrees from Intake to Exhaust duration and on a 113-114 LSA....but you may want to call just to make sure.

I know you can use nitrous on stock motors (cams) but if you are building a motor (or upgrading yours) I would call and ask as I suspect thy use custom grinds.

I asked him and he said that I can throw as much NOS to the motor as I feel comfortable with..the cam will be just fine...

That's not a lot of overlap...who knows...maybe its the way to go but I've read for a performance cam....you should go between 40-60 degrees of overlap.

Re: Cam choices for my stealthram'd 383

That looks like a fine stealthram cam, Wishmaster.

About the only thing I see that is odd might be the flash point for that torque converter, for which I must whip out my " non-scientific rule of thumb". If you consult your torque converter manufacturers, I think you will find that they recommend a stall speed that hits at about 800 RPM below peak torque.

This recommendation appears to hit directly on peak torque for the flash point. That'll make for some monstrous torque on the launch for sure. I guess if it were me, I'd get the higher stall speed if the car is equipped with sticky tires and skinnies out front. Otherwise, I'd pick out a really good lockup converter that will stall at approximately 3600 RPM when hit with 475 ft.lb of crankshaft torque.

Re: Cam choices for my stealthram'd 383

well Im going to have to live with what I got..I cant afford a new stall right now.....I think I get one free re-stall....but then again, how do I know what the stall will stall at? Ive heard that a converter setup to stall at 3000 on a 305 might stall alot higher on a bigger cubed motor....so I guess I just have to wait and see what happened when I hit the gas
