theres no smoke blowin out the pipes, no water mixing with the oil, no knocking sound

new:
3 core radiator
190 stat
Water Pump
Hoses


is there a sensor that can be causing this to overheat?? what wud it be??

yea make sure you have that black plastic piece under your radiator there.....i got a question to add to the pot as well...what temp do your guy's car run at....after mine is up and running it stays at 220 or so, and sometimes creeps up 240, rarely 250 when i'm hammering on it...is this normal? i have a 160 stat in it, new radiator only a 2 core, is it normal to get this hot? I gotta do something about that this winter, what do you guys suggest? i was gonna relocate the air intake, and take the space where the air intake was in the front bumper and put a nother fan in there...would that help with having dual fans there? what else could I do? hi flow pump etc?

First things first, Are you sure all of the air is out of the cooling system. If you have air in the system, it tends to make the temp gauge act kinda funny.

ive had a 180 stat in there before, and it still overheated

if im on the expressway it stays belowe 220, once i get off thas when the temp just starts goin up above 220 and gets close to 260..........stock single fan setup....it does turn on......

slayer i know the temp gauge isnt actin funny when the overflow starts steaming and anti-freeze is spurtin out of it.......

it weird cuz when i hooked up the new heater core next to the engine just to make sure it wasnt leaking the temp hit 220, fan kicked on, and then went down to the first line.....did it bout 4 times.....now why is it overheating when theres air flowing thru......

i havent checked the timing actually, so MAYBE that might be it

this the only camaro ive had so many overheating probs wit....sux

maybe your waterpump isn't up to par....maybe its worn or something....camaro's are notorious for overheating in stop n go traffic, when i'm sitting at a stop light it gets up to 250 but on the hiway doing 80 or so you should be able to get it below 220.....i don't know how to fix your problem but what i'm doing is putting in an electric water pump, so at low rpm's it pumps a lot of fluid opposed to mechanical one.

That sums it up. As is quite common with these cars, you have inadequate airflow. Inspect for the usual leaf litter or debris between the radiator and condenser. Inspect for anything hampering airflow to the condenser like debris or smashed fins. If everything looks OK ditch the single fan setup. Swap in an LT1/LS1 dual fan setup, an aftermarket setup (Flex-A-Lites new 295 looks real nice!), or any fan setup capable of producing at the very least 2800cfm.

Thanks Marc.......whats a good site to get this fan from?? And is this LT1/LS1 going to bolt right on or is there going to be other parts i need?

Get a scantool and see if it is really overheating. See if that is wht the ECM sees. If so then is is likely there is an issue with the system. 2 sensors reading about the same temps are unlikely to be wrong.

I have a 91 z28 with a 305. It doesn't overheat but it gets up to about 240 and then the fans kick in and it goes down to about 220. Is this normal? i thought maybe the guage could be messed up because the fans don't kick in untill the guage reads 240. i have put a new 3 row radiator in, a new thermostat, i have an air dam, i cleaned all the dirt and leaves between the codensor and radiator. i just can't figure out the problem if there is a problem.

As long as the motor does cool when the fan comes on its normal. Some stock electric fans aren't commanded on by the ECM until around 237*. But there is a remedy for this. Several companies make fan switch kits that drop the fan turn on temp much lower. This should keep temps down.

86305Z28 - Neither the LS1, LT1, or aftermarket fans are direct bolt ons. However the radiator/engine bay is large enough to accomodate nearly any setup. They all will fit with minor bracketry fabrication and a little wiring. Even an amateur could do it, given enough time. I swapped in a Flex-A-Lite Black Magic 150 fan and haven't looked back since...

Make sure your radiator has been flushed out and is flowing coolant through all the tubes. If you have any doubt have it flushed out!! I had to put a new radiator in mine this past spring due to one tank blowing apart and this helped mine considerably. I also have my fan wired to a flip switch and I turn it on whenever the temp gets around 180 and it will run 160 reguardless how or where I'm driving. I have never liked mine running above 220, but the factory fan switch does turn the fan on at 237. This is a very easy fix, though. If you look on the passenger side cylinder head towards the rear, you'll find a green wire going to the fan switch (sensor). If you'll connect the green wire to one side of a flip switch and the other side to a ground, it will turn on whenever you flip the switch. Or you can just connect the green wire directly to a ground and the fan will run whenever the switch is on. IMHO, this is so much easier than wiring into relays and so forth. If you run a/c though, you'll have to turn on your fan with the switch when the a/c runs. If you haven't removed your fog lights yet, this helps also and alot more than you would think. I am running a 160 stat and have my fans wired to the switches with the primary one on all the time. sitting in traffic in 100* weather, car almost hit 200* In normal weather and driving, it is at 160.
