The first 2 cams look very interesting. I have been researching them. They might be a good alternative for the LPE 219 with a SR/TFS heads.

My ported SR should be shipped in a few days time. Time to pick out a cam. A few guys on the thirdgen board have had success meaning in the 370-380rwhp with 350-355 cubes. Who has used these cams, and were you happy?

Springs on my heads are good to .600 so says TFS. So those cams would need 1.5's. 1.6's might be too much lift. I think these cams might be something for you guys to think about to think out of the "219" box. Just some info!

The first cam would probably be the besat, but there is no real reason to think out of the 219 box, It's a proven setup and works well. It's not just duration numbers and lift numbers, it's also the profile of the lobe, and duration and lift only hints at that. That cam is designed for that intake and you can tell from the et's that setup puts out for a mild cam.

LPE 74219 + Superram
AFR 190 angle milled to 58cc (have to angle mill - quench)
10.5:1 compression

I've seen 12.1's with a stock ARAP bin out of alot of people and even a few 11.9's. As a 383 their 11.7's or better. It's just one of those tried and true setups. Also dual profile cams were designed to compensate for heads that don't flow well on the exhaust side, with a good set of heads you can use and even profile cam.

Also is that good to .600" Lift with a Flat tappet cam, or Roller cam? Big difference, just don't want you getting into trouble.

Thanks for your post Jim. BTW, This setup is going in my 88 Vette that has a 4+3 tranny, and I am keeping my stock 3.07's.

1st-2.88
2nd-1.91
3rd-1.33
4th-1.00

Jim do u think that the first cam will make more pwr then the 219? I hear what your saying that its proven. I am just thinking outside of the box as that cam is old, and there are some new cams out there on the market.

a really good buildup can be seen on buckeyeroc's page, he used the combo from a vette forum. I understand what you are saying about the cam being old but the lobe profile of that cam is setup to match the velocity of air through the runners/intake/heads. They don't call it the superram cam for anything! The other problem is when you start going with a bigger cam then the 74219, you push the superram out of it's range

The XFI218 has slightly less duration than the 219 seat to seat. However the XFI218 has more duration under the lift and would make for the better all around cam.

if you have MAP you don't want a cam unless you can tune or are willing to fork out some cash to have it tuned

The motor will be dyno tuned.

I usually just tune them on the street,
but dyno is better for setting AFR in the top end
