What are you using for headers????

Here is my problem. We were mocking everything up on the engine stand this past weekend and when we put the headers on we realized that the driver side header collector points right at my basepan. My basepan is a 6qt Moroso unit, so yes it is bigger than stock. My headers are Edelbrock shorties with a y-pipe designed for a single cat car. Well with the sharpe bend on the driver's header the y-pipe is not going to reach/clear around the basepan and connect to the header. And I really don't want to end up not using these headers.....

IMHO the Edelbrock headers are pretty worthless. I've only ever installed 2 sets and they both fit badly, and you can get more headers for the money from Hedman anyway.


If your headers won't clear the oilpan you only have 2 options: use different headers or use a different oilpan. You COULD heat and bend the header, but then you don't know if it'll clear the framerail and you'll have to have the Y-pipe modified or else have one made. You also COULD beat the oilpan for clearance (assuming the interference is marginal,) but then you lose oil capacity, lose sealing integrity, and have to beat on your brand-new oilpan.

i originally was using dynomax jetcoat headers and they worked well but i can see your concern with the pan. i'm running a canton 7 qt and i now have a custom set of 1 3/4" lts but this is also possible because of my tubular k-member which game me so much more freedom to custom bend where they need to go. definately not something i could have done with a stock k member.

SLP 1 3/4 shorty headers. Seems to clear everything well.
