305TPI Heads Vs. 350TPI Heads Vs. Vette 350TPI Heads???

Which stock heads, 305TPI, 350TPI, Vette 350TPI flow the most?

Are the Vette 350 heads also center bolt?

Thanks

Lingenfelter highly recomends the vette L98 heads. They are aluminum and have good size valves (2.00/1.60 I think). With very little work they flow very well. Not to mention the weight saved. Ill go get my book later and post up here their flow numbers.

The 305 TPi heads have the small cc chamber going for them for hgh compression but thats about it. They have very small intake runners. I dont know very much about the iron L98 heads. I would imagine a gentle medium between the other two.

All the heads are centerbolt after 86.

The Vette and L98 heads are almost identicle. The Vette heads are actually just aluminum L98 heads with a 58 cc combustion chamber. Their intake and exhaust valves are both 1.92 and 1.50 respectively, and the runner volumes are the same.

The 305 TPI heads are casting numbers 416 prior to 1987 and 081 for 1987 and later. They are identicle to the Vette and L98 heads in terms of runner volume. But the combustion chamber is 58 cc, just like the Vette's, while the intake valve is just 1.82". If you have the intake valve opened to 1.92 you have essentially an L98 head with higher compression!

They can ALL be made to flow like Vortecs. Just follow the link at the end of my sig for the low down ;)

So ported Vette L98 heads would be a nice set-up.

Sure.

But I wouldn't pay anything extra for them. Their only advantage is that they are aluminum. If you are building a race car or track-only dragster then go for it.

Otherwise, the best bet by far is to just get a set of 416 or 081 305 casting and work from there. They practically give them away at the junkyards.
