Z28 can't do a burnout

So I have this awesome 2015 Z/28 - and I can't even do a burn-out, let alone launch at the drag strip!
Before you all start thinking, "the Z is a track car, dummy!", I know. I bought it to track it... That said, I still should be able to go to the drag strip, have a little fun, and see how fast the car is.
So with traction and stability control turned off, the car in race mode, it will not allow me to do a burnout - even in the water!! Forget launching, it just falls flat on its face! So after a dozen passes I decided to take my broken heart, and my broken car, home...
I know this has to be due to some setting in the ECM - because when the car is already moving it is fast as hell, but when you're dead stopped it won't let the tires spin (much). Sitting at the line, clutch in, floor the throttle, and it stops at about 3500 rpm and sounds as loud as a 4-banger. Anyone care to explain?

Re: Z28 can't do a burnout

Simple, It's designed that way. The Z28 is a sports track car not a drag car. The COPO is a drag car. The track/launch control is designed to give you the optimum launch given the condition present at the time. With very little wheel spin. This is supposed to give you the best/quickest launch. If you think the launch control is not functioning properly take it to the dealer and have them check the software.
P.S. The reason it sounds like a 4-banger is because the rev. limiter is activated. Have you tried launching in just sport mode?

Re: Z28 can't do a burnout

Why would my rev limiter be limiting rpm to around 3500 rpm? (That's with the gas pedal floored). And yes I've tried sport mode... But isn't track mode #5 supposed to be the best performance? It says right on the display "Traction Control off / Stability Control off" .

Re: Z28 can't do a burnout

It may have "launch control". Almost sounds like it has a two-step rev limiter.... one for WOT with the clutch engaged and another for the clutch disengaged. It's included with the ZL1.... maybe the Z28 has it as well???

Watch this:

Re: Z28 can't do a burnout

In your owners manual on pg. 9-43 in the sect. where it describes the different Competitive Driving Modes, in the center of the page.

"Launch Control (V8 with Manual Transmissions except Z/28)"
This is an error! The 2015 Z/28 HAS launch control.

"Launch Control is only available when the following criteria are met:
. Competitive Driving Mode is selected or any of the PTM modes are selected.
. The vehicle is not moving.
. The steering wheel is pointed straight.
. The clutch is pressed and the vehicle is in 1st gear.
. The accelerator pedal is rapidly applied to wot.
The Launch Control feature will initially limit engine speed as the driver rapidly applies the accelerator pedal to wot.
A smooth, quick release of the clutch, while maintaining the fully pressed accelerator pedal, will manage wheel slip."

The problem appears to be that the car is always in one of the "Competitive Driving Modes or PTM's."

Re: Z28 can't do a burnout

So you can't do a burnout in a ZL1 or Z28? Obviously you don't want to do this when racing... but to do it just to do it would be fun now and then... am I reading this correctly?

Re: Z28 can't do a burnout

With tires on the Z/28 costing around $2500.00 a set and only lasting a few hours of track time, this is something you probably don't want to do anyway.
Also in the ZL1 video where they talk about keeping the throttle On the floor coming out of a corner and shifting. This would be an extremely BAD thing to do in a Z/28 in "race mode"!

Re: Z28 can't do a burnout

Ok guys, I too have a '15 Z/28; and as long as you have stabiltrak traction control engaged, its hard to get a burnout. However, just as in my c6Z06...hold down button 3 to reach nirvana burnout land.

Holding down the 3rd button for 5 seconds will turn off ALL nannies/ stabilitrak, with the two icons that are active with a cross bar thru them when in PTM mode 1 thru 5, with the exception .... no traction control modes are active. Holding down the button until you defeat the nannies will allow you to melt the Trofeo-R's to your hearts content...

in a C6Z06, holding down the PTM button for 5 seconds will do the same thing, then as on your Z/28...you can melt the tires.

@ Z28SORR

Did the hold down the button trick work? I'm having a similar issue that I started a topic on. Please let me know, I'm really interested in getting this issue behind me.

ROCK ON.
