When ready, we have a really nice set of headers and exhaust to help it breath

You need to take it to a shop and let them build you a good combo. Thats not gonna be the motor for "800hp min" without forced induction.

If you haven't already do a custom LSX 454 twin turbo with plenty of other goodies, you'll be over 1000rwhp if you want it

Wow.
An 800+hp custom powertrain with someone who "doesn't know much about cars" behind the wheel sounds like a recipe for a wrecked 5th gen. Not my idea of a good plan.
If I may ask, what's the real goal? Horsepower is just a number. Do you want to drag race? Street race? Road race? Do you just want bragging rights on a dyno? Do you plan to daily-drive this car when you're done?
If you tell us what you're trying to accomplish, we can help you decide what the best way is to get there.
If I had $50k to spend on the biggest engine I could manage, I'd first set aside at least 10k of that to modify my suspension, drivetrain, wheels, and tires so that the rest of the vehicle could handle the power and put it to the ground. I'd think long and hard about adding a roll bar or cage so that I don't die.
I'd use 30k to have a pro LS engine builder put together an engine based on a tall-deck Dart or RHS aluminum LS block. These are a lot like the LSX block, but they weigh about 200 pounds less because they're not made of iron. I'd go REALLY big on the displacement, like 470ci at least. I'd consider 427-454ci with supercharging, but I'd lean towards NA and the really big displacement. Unless you're building a dedicated drag car, I'd avoid a turbo setup in that power range.
The remaining 10k would go to all of the extras you'd need and all the parts you break in the search for a solid combo. Gauges, tuning, cooling, fuel system, etc. It'll add up in a BIG hurry.

A 454ci LSx with the right heads, a big cam, a great tune, and all of the supporting mods can hit 800hp without a lot of trouble.Originally Posted by supernova1972

like JakeRobb said, make sure you have the safety and suspension to back that, if your not gonna be racing, maybe just a LS9 conversion? Btw did you want that 800 at the crank or wheels?

put a supercharger on and call it a day. or even just do a twin turbo setup. no need to pull the stock motor out.

LSX 454 Stroked to a 510.
Then you have an awesome platform to jump off from if you decide that 700hp isn't enough.
Plus it's much more cost effective than to just "throw money at it."
That's what we're doing......
