Seeing a brand-new car testing alongside its predecessor from 30 years prior, though, is downright unusual.

For reasons we can't even begin to comprehend, Chevrolet is doing just that, testing the next-generation Camaro alongside pristine third-gen models (really, they are damn clean examples of the breed). It's tough to tell what's going on with these manufacturer-plated F-Bodies, but according to our spies, one of the two examples allegedly had an intercooler and a distinctly V6 engine note. Your guess is as good as ours, here - SEMA specials in the making?

The camouflaged 2016 Camaro, meanwhile, is almost equally mysterious. Glance at the gallery and note the heavy camouflage on the roof. While a first guess might point to a prototype Camaro Convertible, our spies point to the unbroken A-pillar, which feeds into the roof. Instead, the leading theory (reinforced by some not so subtle yearning on our part) is that this car features a prototype T-top roof, or full removable panel.

As a former owner of a '99 V6 Camaro with T-tops, I love the thought of the covered up top possibly being because they are testing T-tops or even a removable hard top. I seriously doubt that is it though, but it would be nice.

I owned that car for 6 years. I loved taking the T-tops out while riding. Occasionally, I would take out the tops and go for a scenic ride in an area not far from home with the 200+ Watt Monsoon stereo system cranked up. That was mostly during my college years and still lived at home with my parents for the most part. Those were good days.

After graduation, I moved into a cabin on a river. The cabin was in a gated community with a gravel road. I lived at the very far end of that road. The road wasn't supper bad but it warranted a truck/SUV type vehicle with 4x4 in the winter time. I needed something to haul a trailer once in a while as well. I ended up trading that Camaro in on a SUV. I hated to do that but had to.

I really miss that car.
