Looking Back to 1993….
 

I thought I’d switch gears around here from the new pictures and post up some fresh material.

I was poking around the net looking for some Camaro stuff and came upon a 1993 Z28 vs Cobra article out of Motor Trend. It was a very interesting read considering we should see a very similar article in the next few years.

Some note worthy quotes from the Article:

“True the design isn’t as radical as what appeared in ’82, but its tasteful evolution of that familiar shape”

hmmmmm...:think: .....take that how you will.....

And then this cracks me up,

“If this one stays in production as long as the previous Camaro did, you’ve just had your first look at the 2003 Z28.”:lol:

If we only knew back then....

It goes on to say how the interior is just as horrible as the 3rd gen but the LT1 makes up for it.:rolleyes:

That wont work these days.

Damn, that is a sexy car:bow:...(the Z28 of course ;) ) It looked better than the 'Stang then and it still looks better now...Funny how little has changed in 12, almost 13 years now :)

I remember reading that article when it came out :D I have every MT dating back before I was born (June '79, to be exact). That was back when MT actually was a pretty good rag.

Without a doubt, that day has come and gone :(

now i'm gettin all sentimental for my old 93 Z28. :(

anyway, i was reading A.C.A.R again the other day and looking at all the stuff about the 4th gen that was in there..........

one thing that has been on my mind lately is how a week before launch, they had to completely restyle the car because of the ACC California Camaro. i keep wondering what has happened to the clay model since the pictures we saw were taken. according to one of the insiders on C&G, that pic is over a year old...........

I've always wondered what was changed on the Camaro before the design tweaks from the California Camaro. It couldn't have been that much. If I had to guess I'd say the angle of the windshield and maybe the mirrors that flow from the quarter panels.

I love my LS1, but at times I do miss the low end grunt of the LT1. Wish I could have both. :(

Too True.

Now, every domestic car is junk (not matter from whom or what it is) and all imports "redefine segments" and "raise the bar", no matter how ugly and pointless they are.

What else do you expect from an editor with the name Angus?

That stangbangers magazine article archive has alot of good Camaro vs Mustang tests through the 4thgen era. I'd previous bookmarked that and downloaded most of the good articles, great stuff...

What's funny is how awed everyone was of the LT1 with it's phenominal power. Now it's kinda ho-hum, 300ish hp is everyday common now, lol... What's even more funny is how badly outclassed the standard Mustang GTs were through the LT1's life.

I just checked out all those camaro vs mustang articles and I did not see one test that indicated a mustang was a superior preformer to a camaro. This re-assures me that my future camaro will not be an inferior performer to a mustang. Don't worry about preformance, camaro will be there !:)

Thats because the powers that be at Ford should have been gutted and hanged from a light post by thier entrails, but I digress.

how sad was it that the Lightning and exploder had better cylinderheads and induction, or the Ford didn't have the cajones to even seriously consider dropping a 351 in the mustang when GM rolled out the LT-1 :rolleyes:

There was a pic of a red Z28 in Motor Trend with the frt lower fascia being a tad different. I also have another pic from 1989, I believe, with a pic of the 4th gen with a taller grille like the 3rd gen with the California concept IROC-Z style (fan) wheels.

Wow, I was just looking at that again, Both the Cobra and Z28 used to cost less the $20k......Thats just crazy to me

Yeah, once in awhile I go back to read the old articles about Camaro vs Mustang. I have every Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Automobile, and Road and track since early 1994. It's funny to read those articles now.

On a side note, I remember the first time I saw the 4th gen Camaro. It was at 6-Flags in Georgia and I was in line at the Freefall and there was a display outside a dome that was sponsored by GM. There was a 1993 purple pearl metallic Z28 with the black top. It just blew me away because it looked so cool and looked like nothing on the road or anything I had ever seen. I said that day "One day I will have one of those". I always remember that moment.
