Just another quick poll.......

All of this is pretty much speculation and more out of curiosity (and probably has been done before) but:

If GM offered a 300+ hp supercharged V-6 and a naturally aspirated V-8 making 400+ hp which would you choose?

At first this question seemed like a no brainer but then I got to thinking about it. The V-6 would (should?) weigh less and offer a better weight distribution. On top of that with it having a blower it would (again should) be easier to reach the 550 flywheel hp rating. After witnessing many friends achieve incredible gains with a "pulley and tune" combo on their 03/04 Cobra's I have gained alot of respect for the roots blower. I am curious as to what the consesus is around here.

P.S. If this has already been debated then ignore it and when I get time I will start searching.

Re: Just another quick poll.......

First, we don't know how much the v6 will weigh. I don't recall anything about hearing a supercharged variant on here, and I am still led to believe that the engine will be a DOHC variant (possibly originally developed for Cadillac) unless someone hints otherwise, making 300hp or more NA. The Nissan VQ35DE weighs more than the LS1 does, just as a point of reference.

As nice as this v6 could turn out being, you can count on me getting the 400 horse v8. I thought this was supposed to be a poll though? Doesn't seem like much of a poll to me.

Re: Just another quick poll.......

I'm sorry about this not being a good poll. Just more curious than anything. As for the SC V-6, I have seen a couple rumors floating around about a H.O. V-6. Now if the H.O. V-6 doesn't have a blower on it then the V8 would be the obvious choice.

What happened to the poll?

I think most people would like the V8, but cost is usually the issue that keeps them out of the V8 car.

Re: Just another quick poll.......

well Im hoping to be able to swing the 400hp V8.

BTW wheres the poll? You cant do a poll by just who replies. 30 people may vote in your poll but only have 10 responces. Just an FYI.

Re: Just another quick poll.......

I'd rather have a NA V8 that I can strap a turbo or SC to later. More HP potential w/ a factory V8 than w/ a SC v6

Re: Just another quick poll.......

I agree with you with the more hp potential from the V-8 but its a lot harder for me to come up with the $5000-7000 for a FI kit than to spend $500 for a pulley and a tune. If done right the high level V-6 car (again if its offered) could be compared with the Grand National, Supra, etc. Personally I would like to see an SC V-8 but I don't think I would be able to afford one.

Re: Just another quick poll.......

I really doubt we will see a blown V6.......

And I also don’t think the hi-po V6 will be for over 75% of the people here....at least the people who are here now....

I think this motor will be brought to market to bring a new type of buyer to Camaro....

Of course most of us here will opt for the V8...

That’s what I'm planning on buying.....

Still need to land that after college job though....

Anyone looking for a bright kid with a Human Resource/ Business Degree in the next year? I've got project management experience with a construction company
I also understand the auto industry.....

Re: Just another quick poll.......

I don't think this is a fair comparison since the V8 starts with 100HP more and price points aren't specified. I therefore voted for the V8.

I also think the SCV6 probably wouldn't weigh much less than the V8 if at all.

Re: Just another quick poll.......

Alot of good valid points there. As I stated before I was more curious than anything. Actually this question would apply to more than just the Camaro. Thanks for your replies.

In that case, I believe you wouln't vote

If it were simply between those two alone, V8. People always make cases of V6's being made faster, etc etc... You shouldn't need excuses to buy a V6 - if you have to make excuses, then I don't think you'll really be satisfied in the end. You could also make excuses then to go and buy a 4 cyl...or anything like that. Regardless, I'd personally rather have a nice big 8 to rely on rather than a V6 and S/C.

None of this is directed at the original poster, just people in general always trying to convince themselves that V6 (or whatever the case is better)...you know an 8 is always going to be on the back of your mind if you really are CHOOSING a V6 over a V8. By choosing, I mean you are NOT buying a V6 for lower vehicle costs, lower insurance costs, etc...

Good point; I'm often trying to convince myself to settle for a V6 (Still a lot of fun, really they're pretty fast!, I won't have to 'prove' anything, etc...), but I think deep down inside I wouldn't 'really' be happy with one. Years later I'd probably be saying, "Man, I wish I'd gotten a V8!"
