Disciples - Share your driving experiences!

You guys got to drive the pre-production cars at the last summit. Now that the Camaro has been revealed, can you fully share your driving experiences with us?

I think so, what do you want to know? It's easier to answer specific questions than rewrite the book on it.

I'd like to know about the cabin space "feel", particularly headroom and how it compares to the 4th gen. I'm 6' 2" tall and 200 lbs. Anyone that height or taller in the group that drove the pre-production cars? I'd like your comments about headroom.

I'm 6'1" and there was ample room for me, as well as a couple of the other guys who are taller than I am. To my mind, there was a very open feel to the cabin while sitting in the driver's seat. It is more of an upright seating position than that of my 4th Gen.
If your height is in your torso, the headroom will be a bit tighter than if your height is in your legs. There is a ton of legroom - so much so that I really had to move the seat far up from the back position. I have a 33" inseam, if that gives you a better perspective...
My only regret was not bringing a helmet to Milford so that I could check out headroom while wearing one!
It should be OK!

Best regardSS,

Elie

Yes, it does. I'm long in the torso. Leg room was never a problem in my '98. Although I'm an inch taller than you, my inseam is also 33". I'm just hoping I won't be staring into the windshield header. My '98 Camaro was marginal with respect to that situation. The more upright windshield on the 5th gen may alleviate the problem somewhat. Thanks for the input.

One thing I love about my 4th gens is the pedal to steering wheel orientation! Now im driving a '95 ES300 and the steering wheel is either too far away or I adjust forward with the seat and my knees are in the dash!

How is the pedals to steering wheel distance compared to the 3rd and 4th gen?

Adjustable pedals along with adjustable steering wheel position I hope?

Handling, how was it compared to a 4th gen? Did it feel like a heavier car? Can you guys compare it to some other modern cars out today like the 3 series, Mustang, or any of teh FWD coupes?

FS3800, good point! Also, what about the weight of th doors? Can you already feel the door sagging potential aka heavy, or are they easy and light to close?
How is rear seat room? Not like Im gunna have a party back there, but could a kid or two fit back there?

How about the number one thing that will be on most prospective buyers' minds - how was the acceleration? Both V6 and V8 versions.

How well did it handle? Did it feel heavy? Was the V6 more nimble than the V8 due to less weight, or did the V8's more performance-oriented suspension handle better?

What did the V8's exhaust note sound like?

ah, another question.. many people, when complaining about the console gauges, have said that in a normal driving position you wouldn't even be able to see them because your arm would be in the way..

i'm hesitant to accept that conclusion without them having sat in the car..

so to those who have sat in the car, how much out of your way do you have to go to look at those gauges down by the shifter.. would a quick glance suffice? would you have to move your arm out of the way?

Maybe, it depends on where your right hand is on the steering wheel. It is no different than being in the way of the radio if your right hand was a bit higher on the wheel. I don't see there being a problem taking a quick glance as necessary, but that it just me.

Turning radius in my '99 is zero,

I'd like to know how it handled when driven hard in the corners, but I don't know if you guys did that kind of driving

It's not like we drove them for a long time or they had an autocross course set up for us. I did a bit of a faux slalom during my drive and the car felt reasonably responsive. We were also told they weren't finished dialing them in yet.
