Chicago Auto Show

ok.. layin in bead listening to WGN radio Steve & Johnny show and they got Paul Brian on, i think he's the director of communications or something for the Chicago Auto show...

they were talkin bout the Challenger, mentioned the Camaro coming a year later blah blah blah.... anyway i had the urge to call in

one thing i noticed about the Camaro Concept Show Shedule the message board here is the lack of mentioning of the Chicago Auto show..

so i called in and just wanted to ask a simple question.. will there be a Camaro Concept at the auto show?... well, i never got to talk to the guy.. and was on hold for 10 mins but the .. producer of the show i imagine.. eventially got back to me and said he had asked Paul Brian and was told that my question could not be answered because of an embargo, secrecy that sort of thing... HMMMM

now earlier in the show he had mentioned the GM and specifically Chevy exhibits.. and there was even a caller from GM design studio or something.. while no nameplates were named.. they mentioned that some good stuff was going to be at the Chevy exhibit and i believed the words "high horsepower" were used.

so... Chevy will have some "awesome concepts" with "high horsepower" and he can't tell me if there will be a Camaro Concept at the show or not because of an embargo...

speculation: Z/28 concept?

PS: sorry if my rambling is hard to comprehend.. i'm half asleep here

unequivocally no Z/28 concept. This year, the ZR1 is the performance highlight in the Chevy display at the big shows.

Wouldn't surprise me if they had something to upstage the Challenger, though.

FS3800 01-30-2008 09:27 AM

a simple question, will Chevrolet be showing one of the Camaro Concepts at the auto show?

the answer from the producer .. it was during a commercial brake so i assume he went to Paul Brian and told him there was a caller with this question.. anyway the producer said "he said he can't answer that right now cause of .. (i don't know if this was the exact word used) an embargo"...

why the heck couldnt he confirm there was gonna be a Camaro concept there unless there IS going to be a NEW camaro concept there.. because as far as i know, none of the concept cars we know about are going to be there

Chris, when they were talking with the caller from GM Design i got the impression that there was some "very cool" NEW concept cars from chevy, and not long after that "high horsepower" was mentioned

the ZR1 is not new, it was shown at detroit, and it's not a concept

but.. this is all deduction based on what i heard and what the producer told me when i called.. so its all speculation on my part, nothing solid, or proven..

i guess we'll find out when the Chicago Auto Show starts.. but i'm certainly curious now

I've been asking the question about a camaro at the chicago auto show for a couple monthes and haven't gotten an answer. I just find it hard to believe that they would unveil a new camaro in chicago instead of detroit but you may be on to something to upstage the challenger.

The concepts are hand built cars and very expensive to make from what I understand. I can't see the point of building another expensive concept just to show off a "Z-28." I believe the next "new" camaro we'll see at an auto show will be the actual production car... and THEN from the production car I can see GM releasing a Z28 "concept."

Until GM is ready to reveal the production car (supposedly at Indy at the end of the year???) I can't see them spending unnecessary money building more concepts???

That's just me rambling.... but of course, I'd love to be proven wrong and see a "new" concept showcasing some form of Z28 :D

ok.. then why isnt chicago listed on the concept show schedule?.. Chicago show is from 2/8-2/17

the silver car is going to be in Baltimore 2/7-2/10.. the red push car is going to be in Buffalo 2/6-2/10... and the orange convertable is going to be in Philly 2/2-2/10

we don't know where bumblebee will be between the Super Bowl on 2/3 and 2/23

also.. if it is just one of the concepts we already know about, then why would this guy not be able to say because of a secrecy agreement or whatever?.. why be so secret if it's something we already know about?

CaminoLS6 01-30-2008 11:21 AM

I heard about a little something but have no idea when/where/if it will show up.

If it's what I'm thinking, it wouldn't really be a concept nor a production car. Think "what if toy". You know, something that might show up at Woodward - an engineering exercise.

I don't know why "this guy" couldn't answer your question... Maybe it's a "secrecy agreement" thing or a "Hell I don't know" make up an answer thing ... I can't address what someone I don't know says.

There's more than one Bumblebee... maybe that's part of the answer you are looking for?;)

AFAIK, I am telling you what's slated to be there. We will certainly know a week from thursday. I think you will find I'm right on this.;)

Fbodfather 01-30-2008 11:32 AM

The Bumblebee from Detroit will be in Chicago.

well "this guy" Paul Brian knew what he was talking about as far as i could tell on the radio show.. he was just a "guy".. clearly he knew his stuff about what was going on at the auto show.. Director of Communications for the Chicago Auto Show is what he was.. i wouldnt have bothered attempting to call in if i hadnt been listening to him for a while to hear if he could possibly know.. and if he told the producer that he couldnt answer my question becauseof some secrecy type deal.. i believe him.. i don't think he just didnt know the answer.. i believe he knew and just couldnt say for fear of black suburbans taking him away

It's absolutely beautiful, too!

FiefSS 01-30-2008 11:41 AM

Thanks for answering that! I was gonna be a bit disappointed if there was no Camaro at the show at all.

I'm sure he's a great guy and a gentleman and a scholar. I have no doubt he was answering as best he could, or as he was instructed.

As I said, I can't explain what he said, because I don't know the situation.

My answer is based on what I know and I hope you will come to the show and see all you want to see.

I believe folks appreciate accuracy. They deserve it.

My intent isn't to give you a hard time. I'm answering your question accurately. You deserve it.
