I think so. It looks great and seems to have damn good build quality. We have not had a Camaro since 2002 and I feel the time has come. Those worried about gas mileage still get to enjoy a powerful V6 with all of the great looks that come with the car. People like myself who will opt for the V8 know that gas prices are not coming down and will have to include that in the purchasing decision. People will argue weight until they are blue in the face. The car performs well, has a lot of safety features like extra airbags (which I am happy to get), and is built on a solid design. The Camaro has always been affordable and able to seat four and this should be no exception. I think GM has addressed all of the gripes with the previous F-bodies in this model (except weight if you want to go there). This is actually going to be a comfortable car that does not feel like it is made out of plastic and jar you all over the place when you hit a bump. I think it is the perfect execution of performance, heritage, comfort, quality, and value .

If the Camaro has competitors, which it does, then I think it's appropriate to join the race. And I would say most of us are pleased with what GM has brought to the gates.
The right car for the times? That's a pretty loaded question, looking at national issues and beyond- but in the Camaro context- YES.

I put yes because if you are a Camaro fan first then having the car back is better than not. Despite opinions on the car itself. It was either this Camaro or none at all.

Yes, This car is making me buy american.. were before the top on my list was a G37 or used corvette.
Price could still push me either way.

This comment makes me feel uncomfortable because it implies that "a Camaro fan first" will accept anything rather than nothing.
And really, who is to say where the threshold exists on this. Would a "fan first" accept FWD, or a 4 door or a GMT900 based Camaro over nothing?
Just saying....

I said no because now everyone is seeking for gas efficient cars. I couldn't be bias or else I would have said this car is exactly what this era needs. With gas peaking again over $4.00 due to Ike. It seems like we might not find gas under $3.00 for awhile.
This still doesn't alter my choice for getting the Camaro but I had to answer the question with being a Camaro enthusiast set aside.

Of course it is. The musclecar "wars" are on again and it's about time. I just hope it lasts.
Those who are most concerned about fuel economy can buy a Cobalt. If I could afford it I'd get one for a daily driver and a Camaro for fun.
Let buyers choose. The more choices, the better.
Al Gore and others who think they know best and are justified in imposing their values on everyone else need to be stifled.

Yes.
The style is there in leaps and bounds.
The superior suspension is there.
From what I've seen first-hand, and what we've been told; the uncompromising quality is there.
And despite the woulda-couldas about weight, this Camaro has competitor-beating power, performance, and fuel economy to boot.
Yes. I think it's right for the times, and I fully expect there to be a 6th gen Camaro that adapts further to the times when IT comes out.

and, btw, these aren't "musclecar wars". the muscle car is near dead. if you were talking about the "pony car" segment, then yes, it is competitive right now.

for the arguement about fuel economy... below are some numbers you can compare to a 2010 V6 camaro.. est 26MPG Hwy.. Thanks to fuel economy.gov
2009 models (some depending on drive train)...
Honda Accord Coupe - 25MPG
Honda S2000 - 25MPG
Dodge Challenger V6 - 25MPG
Mustang V6 - 26MPG
Nissan maxima - 26MPG
Nissan Altima coupe - 26MPG
Mitsu eclipse - 26MPG
Audi A5 - 26MPG
Subaru legacy - 26MPG
Ford Fusion - 26MPG
Murcury milan - 25MPG
Mazda 6 - 25MPG
VW Passat - 25MPG
Mitusbishi galant - 25MPG
Mitsubishi lancer - 25MPG
Mazda Speed 3 - 25MPG
Subaru emprezra - 24MPG
Mitsu lancer evo - 22MPG
BMW M3 coupe - 20MPG
You don't see these manufacturers dropping these models... AND if that estimate is low by even 1 or 2 MPG.. Catch my drift..
This isn't to say its the greatest thing.. but for what you get its MORE than reasonable in MPG and performance/power..

Yes, its the right car for the times because its existence is forcing Ford to offer a 400hp 5.0, 6 speed Mustang.
