Camaro Concept will be on a stretched Kappa chassis

According to Autoweek, anyway...

(If this is old news, please disregard)

The other GM concept for Detroit won’t be a Pontiac Firebird, but more likely will be a Buick crossover.

Let's not be sidetracked by this guys. It's only a donor chassis. Thanks for posting Darth.

A fine point...

I was not intending to imply that the production car would be the same... just the concept.

Yeah, but it's my understanding that this is not the donor chassis. Hmmm odd. Wonder where all this Kappa stuff is coming from? Someone with usually pretty solid info posted something about a Kappa derived Camaro on C&G and GMI recently.

Seems everyone and their brother made it clear not to expect the chassis under the concept to be the production chassis. One even reminded me the original Solstice was a modified J car, and the production version had something totally new and different.

Hints don't get much more obvious than that. :)

What other donor platforms could there be? Sigma? VY or VE? Or maybe something similar to the Belaire concept? I guess it really doesn't matter what platform the concept is on. Just as long as it's there.

But I thought this car was along farther than we all thought?

even so, GM wouldn't show their hand this early if the car is still 18 months away from launch.

18 months huh?
GM has been working on this car for how 3 years, Chrysler working on its Challenger for 1 year (maybe less). If the Challenger beats the 5th gen to the market, I don't care if it is low volume, it would be undeniable proof that GM is a slowpoke.

don't forget 18 months would mean the car would see launch by mid CY2007. maybe we might get our 40th anniversary after all...

BS, the Challenger is built on an LX chassis thats engineering dates back to the 80's.

Re: Camaro Concept will be on a stretched Kappa chassis

Word, look at the beltline on the Challenger it is freaking high just like the LX cars. If people think that LX and LY are totally unrelated then they are stupid.

It's NOT going to be Kappa.

Probably mostly Sigma - for the concept.

I dont care to speculate on the chassis since its not gonna be a production chassis . I just cant wait to see it in the flesh :)

nope, not nearly that long.

Forget the production chassis speculation for a moment....

Is anyone else encouraged by the fact that this "concept" is being shown on a stretched small car platform rather than a shrunk large car platform?

Has anyone considered what this may point to as far as overall size of the final product?

I for one may have just had my hopes boosted.

I thought about that as well. Stretched small car preportions are much better than a concept sitting on a large car chassis.

Hell, if the concept's not a running car, it may be riding on 2x4's and 2 pvc pipes for axles!

That is what I feared a while back. But my understanding is that the car will be quite cool, and this won't be anything to worry about. Alot of us got riled up over the Challenger, and none of us knows what chassis, or whats under the hood.

Its good to know that this misinformation was cut down with the broad sword. Until the next insurrection!...

Oh man, I kinda expected this car to run!!! That would make it even more awesomeerest if it did...you know, LS7 mated to 6spd sequential...valved exhaust like the Z06. Big Baer brakes...18's and 19's....HID's..a real, one off, 2006 Camaro.

Re: Camaro Concept will be on a stretched Kappa chassis

Yeah, I hope its a fully running concept that way magazines can do some outdoor photo ops, and some burn outs like they did with the SS concept a few years ago. It will make the fron cover of every major auto magazine

What will be under the hood of the concept?

5.3 LS4?
6.0 LS2?
6.2 LSx?
7.0 LS7?

or something else?

Re: Camaro Concept will be on a stretched Kappa chassis

I agree with 91 Z28 4 me, it's a very high beltline just like the 300c.

Now that that's out of the way.... how do I order one?

Give me a brand new 71 Challenger with a hemi and a pistol grip manual.

or... Give me an updated version 37 years later that looks just like it.

I would buy it now.

JOHN:)
