My car came with 275 width tires and only made 315 hp and the current GTO has 400 and only 245 (255?) width tires. Sorry if this has already been discussed but I skipped over the middle six pages.
I'm sure I'm wrong in many ways, but the foundation of the line up is there.

I will buy the top of the line Camaro. IMO it should be the SS. But if it is the Z28 (which it won't be
) I will buy the Z28. Hugger orange with black stripes would be preferable. 6 speed - fully optioned. Then let the mods begin.

Re: Build Your 2009 Camaro thread II (Prices Included)
A couple of updates that I noticed on GM and Chevrolet sites lately.
It seems that OnStar will now be a standard option on all cars beginning with 2007. Yeah, it just got added into the base vehicle somewhere, but that's ok. And XM has been dropped down to $199. After checking the MC SS Standard/Optional Equipment, it is shown as a Standard, so drop that out of the price.
Based on that, I priced out a Z28 at $41965..... Now, if what you posted as the options will be around that price and with that HP, I'll be happy.
It's gonna be a long year and a half wait for all the details to be told. But, I think it will be worth the wait. Plus, that will put it in my financial window.

Jason, how about a sticky on this one too. Stars has done a lot of homework and this would be another good thread that will be evolving on the next 18-24months.
Re: Build Your 2009 Camaro thread II (Prices Included)
Sorry if this has been covered, but is it really realistic to expect the top end Camaro to not offer an automatic transmission as an option? I would think that would limit the car to only enthusiasts, and I'm not sure GM can afford to do that on a Camaro. Although I can see it if it's an engineering concern (like torque transfer limit, etc). Does Ford offer an automatic on their 500 hp Rustang?
Re: Build Your 2009 Camaro thread II (Prices Included)
is there any sort of confirmation that the second level trim will still be a V6? At the 300HP level Im thinkin more of an LS4 (replacement, the entire LS line as it stands is being replaced). Its easier to add displacement aftermarket than cylinders.
As priced, I go with a no option SS. Power to laugh at mustangs and with gears and some more power perhaps GT500s. Biggest things is going to be if its running a decent weight, hoping itd run aluminum block/heads at this price level. 500HP Z28 would scare the **** out of me
As to the LS3/LS9 thing...the LS3 is the LS2 replacement, rumored at 6.2L NA and 420-425HP. The LS9 is the Z06 engine (LS7) replacement, 6.3L Supercharged, 520-525HP. A TT version is rumored for the BlueDevil at around 630-650HP.

Imagine it. My buddy sold his first Z06 to an area country club owner. This guy decided to have about 5 cocktails and then take his Z for a spin-literally. Brought it back the next day with 60 mi on the odometer because he couldn't handle it. People will buy things because that's the best you can get in them, not because they are enthusiasts. The last Z and SS both came with the A4 if you wanted it, and I would throw money down that GM would have one(A6) on deck as well. An automatic is a great idea in the big boy as only 2% of all of today's cars are delivered w/manuals. Z06 pulls it off, but the Camaro is to appeal to a wider audience. Unlike a possible Firebird iteration, which would cost tons in body panels and more, GM only needs to be able to have the trans handle the power as it would most likely be in the mid-level V8. So if that's all it had to do, why would you ignore that part of the population if it is cost effective?

Come to think of it, the sunroof should be more like $1200...that sounds better…
Concerning the overlap with the GTO base price; I agree most sales prob wont come from these loaded up V6 cars.....but at the same time it’s not like the numbers aren’t accurate. I’d say they are pretty close. If the GTo starts around 30k in 2009, I’d expect it to max out around 38k.

Re: Build Your 2009 Camaro thread II (Prices Included)
Actually, go look in all of the cars in your parking lot or on a dealership's lot, see how many are auto and how many manuals. We see things from the world of the enthusiast, which is a low percentage of total sales. Anyway, I totally agree on the paddle shifters, but GM needs to get its act together on this if they do it and make it F1 style like Ferrari and the bunch. The one on the Vette is set up so you use odd push/pull method. Plus, think of the number of people that would love a top of the line Camaro but because of physical limitation or such could not get one. What if that person was you? Sometimes its more about an area GM can take from Ford than "we shouldn't". The Z06 doesn't have auto and neither does Shelby, but what if you could match Shelby power and then give someone auto or manual. Is a Ferrari watered down because it has paddle vs traditional shift?
Re: Build Your 2009 Camaro thread II (Prices Included)
Well, given all the great input I have received from this thread I think I should revise my line up once more.
I’m headed down to school early tonight and will have about 4 days with absolutely nothing to do.
I’ll read through this thread a few times, take notes on other info that has come to light over the last few months and see if I can perfect this anymore.
