Don't get me wrong, I love stick shifts, but the only way my wife would ever drive it is if it had an automatic. (She can drive a stick, she just won't.) On second thought, maybe I do want a 6-speed manual.
have you ever driven one of those before? I wouldnt pay $5 for paddleshifts. Ive watched my buddy paddle-shift his GTP before he was even in the yellow, and the delay was so long he ended up bouncing off the rev-limiter before the thing shifted. I personally would not want crap like that anywhere near the new camaro, unless they fix it and make it work like its supposed to.

It is supposed to be pretty good on the Vettes. The software is different I believe. I wonder what it is like on the GXPs?

The first gen Z/28s were never limited production. Only 602 were built in 1967 because they started late and didn't really advertise the RPO option. In 1968 production picked up considerably to 7199. In 1969, over 20,000 were built (20,302 to be exact) except if you go by the current number of "original" '69 Z/28s on ebay, that number has now tripled.

It was basically supply and demand. RPOZ28 was created to be a trans am specific race car, so the majority of those purchased initially were used for that specific purpose, or they were drag raced. That's why original 1967 and 1968 Z/28s are so rare today. It's not just because of the fewer numbers built, but also because a lot of them were worn-out as race cars many years ago. However, it was never a limited production vehicle.

lol if its a software issue thats pretty sad. I can only imagine an engineer thinking, "well this isnt a corvette, so lets make the delay at least 3 seconds"

I have to agree with you on that part, it needs to be a true tiptronic automatic like on a Porsche or Ferrari. Otherwise it is pretty much worthless.

Its not just software but hardware electronics that make the difference as well. Porsche has it pretty much nailed. Maybe GM should take some tips from the Germans.

I am not that familiar with TCM controllers, but I believe most of the better shifting paddle shift cars are running TCMs with very fast core processors. This alone may account for a better shift, so perhaps it is the computer hardware that is more under question here. Also, the Vette is running the 6L80-e now, whereas the Grand Prix is running the 4T65-e I believe. The valve body in the 6L80-e could have been designed from the ground up to support quick shifting paddle shift commands with better routes for the fluid in manual mode, perhaps.

i figured there was good reasoning behind it, just felt like saying that anyway

If GM can nail it like porsche, paddle-shifts... or at least autosticks better be standard with the auto

Agreed. If they can nail it like Porsche, it should be standard on all automatic V8 Camaros and Corvettes.

I believe the paddle shift is now standard on the '06 Vettes with the A6.

I like what you have done here Stars....however, do you think that the wheels are only going to be 18 x 8.5's? If so I don't understand why GM would keep upping the hp and educing the width of their tires. My car came with 275 width tires and only made 315 hp and the current GTO has 400 and only 245 (255?) width tires. Sorry if this has already been discussed but I skipped over the middle six pages.
