Sorry I meant CAPTIVE not capture in the title.
I have a few questions about the captive fleet cars.

How many were built?
Starting with VIN 000001 since regular production started with 100001?
Are any for sale to the public?
What were the build dates of these cars?

they are not the same vin as the regular production. not for sale to public build dates ? i think they were built in january?

My next question is, are the regular production vehicles that have a last six digit VIN of 000xxx, instead of 100xxx? A member of Camaro5, TXInfernoSS has VIN 2G1FK1EJ9A9000624, but is a regular production car not a CTF. Is there a way to tell if a Camaro is a CTF car?

Sometimes they are saleable. Not sure what the rules are though.

CTF cars in most cases will be sold to the public just like a regular Product Evaluation Program (PEP) car. The determination is made at the end of the CTF program. In some cases, there may be retrofits made but in most cases they are simply sold at auction. CTF is not just for all new models like the Camaro. Models with significant content or powertrain changes also utilize the CTF program for early quality feedback.

Number 3 was built in December. Mrs. Number 3's SS was Number 296 so use that for what it's worth for the quantity of CTF cars.

Original captive test fleet cars-- all started with A9000........

We did not need as many as originally thought in that mileage was accumulated early on with early CTF cars.........thus, some were retrofitted and shipped to dealers for retail sale.

Those that remain in GM's posession:

>all are evaluated to determine if they can be upfitted. Those that, say, may have been in an accident will be used for other purposes -- such as development cars for future components -- or for things like "paint bucks" -- where the car is painted in various colors to make evaluation on future paint choices.

If the particular car is evaluated and retrofitted and meets all quality criteria, it would then be sent to a GM Auction where dealers bid on it - and then it's sold as a 'used Divisional Company vehicle'

If it can be answered, what may be retrofitted? My original question stems from the Indy 500 festival cars. Most of the 25 have VINs with 9000xxx. So these are considered regular production units?

Now I know! My car was a pre productuon test vehicle! I like that! Awsome car, with a story! and I have pictures, and video of it, at Toronto-Montreal-Quebec car shows.... It does have the blue rings at the instrument panel thanks. Carl
