Is there something wrong with my car? I bought a 2012 SS2 LS3 M6 with suppose to be 426 HP? I'm guessing more like 200 HP? I cant even spin the tires? Traction control? Why? It took wet pavement to even get the traction control light to flash. No Smoke, No second gear scratch, or third like I've seen on you tube. What gives? Did I buy a lemon? Seriously, I think my 2007 Silverado crew cab would beat this thing. I'm sick to my stomach to think I traded in my 2002 Corvette and $20000 for this pig!

 

Coming from a 'vette...you will notice a difference. Did you test drive one?

 

If the traction control light flashed, then it is doing its job. Disable it.

 

yeah, hold it down for a couple seconds to disable Stability control too. I've driven a LS3 M6 and it's unable to get traction in 1st and 2nd gear when on full throttle. If you bought it new there is no way its missing any ponies. Those first couple miles put on your car were on a GM dyno to make sure everyone is there.

 

A few things, the break in period is 1500 miles. I think the computer is programmed to take that into account. Also, when you picked up your car, the dealer probably used regular gas instead of premium. To reset the fuel mapping table, pull the #5 & 20 fuses for a few hours. Press & hold the traction control button for 8 seconds. Enjoy.

 

My friend is trying the fuse pull on his 2010 LS3...I'll let you know if it helps.

He has been complaining about the same things...and also coming from a 07 'vette.

 

I'm saying the only time the traction control even comes on is on wet pavement. On dry pavement it doesn't have enough umph to even break the tires loose. The dealer told me they only put in premium fuel in the Camaro. I guess I need more miles but how disappointing!!! I did test drive it but did not drive it like I stole it. I've had plenty of Chevy muscle cars and have never had to question their power before.

 

Remember, disable traction control, press on throttle harder. These cars have a lot more traction that what you're probably used to. I've got over 13K mi. on my LS3. Things got much better after the 1500 break in & fuse pull. Keep in mind, you're probably going faster than it feels.

 

Just got back from dealer and they told me yes it needs more miles. He also said that the factory has the ECM to run softer for the break in miles. He said after about 5000 it should really wake up. He also laughed at the fuse pull trick. So off I go, MILES, MILES, and more MILES.

 

Tell us how it drives after the break-in. I'd actually like to know if GM actually tones the ECM down before 1.5k miles

He laughed because it's GM's screw up...they did not program the ECU properly. It will not adjust the fuel map from low octane to high octane. Basically, if you put in low octane gas and the ECU detects denotation, it will revert to the low octane fuel maps. Once there, the ECU will stay there unless you pull the fuses.

I'm not sure if the 2012's have the issue, but I wouldn't count on it. Only slight changes from 2011 to 2012.

 

Sorry, I'm a couple days late to this thread, but:

Even on regular fuel, an LS3 M6 should have more than enough power to burn the tires. I suspect that the OP needs to pop the clutch more aggressively. The chassis setup on the 5th gen is excellent, so you have a lot more traction than you're probably used to -- especially compared to the much lighter Corvette.

 

No problems with mine. Drove it like I stole from the moment I drove out of the dealership.

Even though you don't have to do this to break the tires loose make sure to turn off Traction Control and Stabile Tack by holding down the button on top of your shifter for about 10 seconds (while your car is standing still). You should see two things pop on in you speedometer. If you only see one you haven't done it properly yet.

The first time I turned off the nanny controls, took it out to an open road, got going about 3 mph, sucked in the clutch, revved it up, hammered it while dumping the clutch.....I had an instant grin from ear to ear along with some nice big "S" marks in the street.

 

I'm late to the thread as well, but here's your checklist of things already mentioned:

1) Make sure the tank is full of premium fuel.
2) Do the fuse pull.
3) Disable the nannies. As described, hold down the t/c button until both ESP and t/c are lit on the dash.
4) Rev it up and dump the clutch.

Traction in these things with the HUGE summer-performance tires and suspension setup is incredible.

Also, the car is so refined that you're going a lot faster than you think you are. It's quieter, the gear ratios are tighter.

Numbers don't lie. Go run it. If the numbers show it's as slow as you think it is, then you should take the car back to the dealer. I promise you, my M6 LS3 performs and will break the stock Pirelli P-Zero's free from the pavement all day long. The LS3 also enters what I call 'warp mode' at about 3500rpm. The sound and pull after 3500 is just incredible.
