Will it fit?

I have a set of 28 x 11 x 15 Goodyear Racing Slicks that I really want to use. Only because I already have them. I plan on mounting them on some 15 x 10 Draglite's with 7.5 backspacing. Anyone think I can fit them with some hammering and trimming? Or no way...

Re: Will it fit?

Depends on the tire type - bias-ply or radial, actual tire diameter - for example, M/T's are slightly larger than the nominal size, and trap speeds - determines how much they grow as speed increases.

I have Weld Pro-Stars, 15x10.0 7.5" BS. My inner fenders had already been hammered for 315/35-17's on a 7.93" BS wheel.

Hoosier QTP 28x11.5-15 (28.0", no tubes) fit with no problems, other than having to move the rear axle back about 1/4" to prevent the tire tread from hitting the metal front edge of the wheel opening, when the tires grew at 130MPH trap speeds.

M/T ET Drags, 28x10.5-15W (28.1", tubes) had major problems. Had to cut 1/2" off the leading edge of the rubber bumper cover to get the tire in the wheel opening. Ended up cutting a total of 1" off the bumper cover, and hammering the the metal body sheet metal point that is under the bumper cover. Tires grew enough at 130MPH to require the major surgery.

Both the above tires are bias-ply. By comparison, radials will grow much less than bias-ply tires.

Re: Will it fit?

They're bias-ply with tube. yeah, I thought about it a lot & I came to the conclusion that it's too close to race day to be trying to fit the 28's. I'm just gonna mount the 26x10x15 Hoosier slicks I got on the Draglite's and think about mounting the 28's later. Maybe thinking about installing a mini tub kit from Wolfe. Thanks a lot for the reply. any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Will it fit?

26's should be OK with your setup. I ran 26"x10 ET Streets on 16" wheels (3.73 gears, M6 at the time) on straight motor (500 flywheel HP) and they hooked. Went to the 28's with the TH400 and 4.11. They were going to have to hold up to the 300-shot, but I only ran them with a 125-shot, running a best of 127.7 MPH.

Now the cars been sitting in the garage for years, with a once-in-a-while trip through the local streets to keep it in shape.
