Traction Setup Opinion
Currently I have stock rims with 245/50R16 Yokohama avid tires. They are ultra high performance summer tires. Even at the track, I get no traction when trying to launch. Local driving is not an issue.
I have been looking at tire and wheel setups and have these two options:
17x9.5" all around with 245/45R17 front (25.67") and 275/40R17 rears (25.7)
18x9.5" fronts with 245/45R18 (26.57"), 18x10.5" rears 305/35R18 (26.42")
Car is in the sig and the only future plans are to keep it all motor but put a larger cam (close to .600 lift) and ported heads on it. I don't want to have to upgrade the wheels and tires twice so do you guys think the 275 drag radials out back will dead hook with the current setup and the future installs? I was going to go bigger just to never have to worry about it again but weight was another concern.
Thanks!

Re: Traction Setup Opinion
How do you plan to use the car? Is it street driven a lot, in all kinds of weather? You really don't want to run most DR's on a wet street. The car is going to swap ends on a corner. If you only drive it in dry weather, and spend more time at the track, you might want to consider the Nitto DR"s. They are a bit more forgiving on wet pavement, and the 315/35-17 has a narrow enough section width that many people use it on a 17x9.5" wheel. Can't do that with other brands like BFG's or M/T's, where a 9.5" wheel is not going to work well at all with their 315/35-17 DR's.
With just the HOT cam, and even with an upgrade to a larger cam and ported heads, I don't think he needs a 27.7" tire. His A4 is not going to hit the tires as hard as your M6.

Thanks for the input.
Car is a weekend car. Never sees rain or snow.
I thought about the 17x9.5 and 17x11 combo but didn't like the wheels available in those sizes.
I went with the 18s. Got Nitto 555s up front, 555Rs out back in the sizes listed above. I'll try and hit Atco this weekend and see how everything does. Also grabbed a driveshaft safety loop to be safe. Ill report back with a new PB hopefully!
I looked at the NT05Rs but there is a small chance the car may get caught in light rain during a weekend excursion and the 555Rs are rated higher for wet traction even though I don't expect too much out of them.
