Tires for 15x3.5 prostars
I did a search and came up with some information and am trying not to make the same mistakes others have made. I caught this from Fred:
"The Sportsman and the Sportsman Front are bias ply tires. The Drag Radial is (obviously) a radial tire. That can be a deadly handling combination. From the M/T website:
Quote:
WARNING: Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires are Bias Ply. It is not recommended that radial and non-radial tires be mixed on the same vehicle."
My question is if I can't run the M/T Sportsman front (8ply) with drag radials what is my other option??? I currently have 165/15 tires on the front but @40 psi they look very low on air. Obviously this tire is not suited to support that sort of load. My car weighs 3330lbs. The only thing discounttire offers is the Kumho Powerstars in 165/80/15 and I'm worried I may already have those on the car. Gonna have to call my buddy tomorrow and double check.

Re: Tires for 15x3.5 prostars
Appears you are going to be running them on the street. My 15x3.5 Pro-Stars are marked on the outside of the mouting area "DRAG RACE ONLY". I think that would be an indication that the wheels are not designed for the lateral loads encountered in daily driving. Based on having driven mine on the street a few times (E'town is 6 miles from my front door) with Moroso DS-2's, I'd be very hesitant to rely on a skinny front tire and a possibly under-designed wheel.
If you are looking for a track tire, any 15x26x4" skinny will be OK.
A buddy of mine ran narrowed factory "SS" sheels on the track, with a narrow high end Pirelli radial on the front, and when it dropped hard from a wheelstand, the tire rim cut right through the tire sidewall and put his 30th Anniv SS convertible into the wall. After that, he ran the correct wheels and tires.
