From another thread:
So what does everyone think? Wanna meet up somewhere in the Austin area Friday night?

There's a few of us in the Austin area. I'll shoot you a PM with my contact info. I will give Tony Shepherd a call and let him know. We are both going to be doing some wrenching this week and possibly dyno tuning over the weekend but it would be cool to meet up.

That is basically every place in Austin, so that shouldn't be a problem. I would also suggest some place local and home-grown. You should try to only go to Austin-originals while you're here (which is pretty easy given the major focus on local businesses around here).

One of my wife's acquaintances said to be sure to go here:

How's that for Friday night at 8? Remember, we have never been to Texas so we have no idea what's good and what's not.

Anyone been to the Shadygrove that I mentioned above? Would that work?

Okay, I guess the Shady Grove it is, since I got no other suggestions. Interestingly enough, it was someone here in Detroit who suggested it.
The wife and I will be there Friday night at 8pm. Hope to see some of you there!

hey man
been busy and this thread isn't in the lounge, so
been to shady grove once after an ultimate frisbee game. nothing to write home about, but very local and non-chain. wouldn't recommend it for the food, tho... if you're in the ATX... if it's not too late, i'd recommend a change of venue...
salt like is an austin original (where we took camride), but not my favorite. IMO, mann's is the best BBQ in town, but they're not an evening/late night establishment. would be good for saturday lunch. (this will be disputed by the elgin elitists )
other good food...
gueros has some pretty good mexican, chuys is a local mexican place and very near shady grove... not super-great, but very local feeling and they have some good chips and 'salsa' (creamy jalapeno = awesome). curras is good for interior mexican food. cafe mangu has some spectacular carribean food, but it's up north and i don't know what to expect late. homeslice is the place for new york style pizza, mangia makes very good deep dish chicago sytle pizza. east side cafe has extremely good ... americana, for lack of a better word.
so what are you in the mood for?
as far as good drinks, you can hit 6th and see a lot of live music. and/or college kids. but seriously, it's cool to drop by, especially after they close down the street. and there are other nearby strips good for the older crowd (west 6th, 5th, 4th).
in fact, this dude will be on 6th tomorrow @ 2200. you should definitely see this in person. impressive, to say the least. i will be going either way i believe this is the venue where i saw him last. you can just walk in, order a beer, sit down, and listen to some sick blues. no cover, IIRC.

A standard bite to eat and drinks with my friends from here in a place that I don't have to shout over some drunk idiots (our table excluded ) or loud music. I am assuming Shady Grove will fit the bill.
