Hi....This is my first post here.

I own a 1995 3.4L Camaro (Silver), and it currently has 170,000ish miles. It's the first car I ever bought, right after I graduated from high school in 04. For whatever reason I knew years before that I wanted to get a 93 to 97 Camaro, and plan on keeping this car forever.

The car has been reliable and hasn't needed anything real major since I've owned it. Stuff like the power steering rack, fuel pump, etc. But unfortunately it's developed more major issues, something around the timing cover is leaking, and the car needs to be filled up with water/coolant after most driving "adventures" now. Also a slow oil leak somewhere, and a slow trans fluid leak. This is discouraging to me because it's a $500 timing cover job, and $600 for the other leaks at my usual mechanic. The timing cover job requires me to remove the front engine components to replace the gasket. Probably needs the timing chain replaced. Through research, it also seems that the oil pan gasket probably will have to be replaced then as well, and the idea of having to rent a engine hoist, etc. to do that is a huge leap in the amount of work I've done myself on a car in the past.

Couple this with the information I found out recently that swapping this older engine out for a 3.8 or 5.7 (my preference engine-wise for keeping this car for the future) is going to be a ridiculous amount of either work, dollars or both, and I'm not sure what to do with this car. It's not worth putting $500+ into the old 3.4 engine just for gaskets, and the amount of work for a DIY job is daunting. I know this is a long-winded, and pretty negative post, but does anyone have any opinions on what they would with this? What's worth doing, and actually makes sense from a longevity and money standpoint?

if you like the car so much, just sell it as is and buy one in similar condition. LT1 F-bodies sell for under $10,000 in pretty good shape. it will cost a lot more to repair your current car to a good condition. 170,000 miles is A LOT.

I have to agree with 97Z28. this is the reason that I own 2 of these cars drove a red convertible
in high school needs lots of work now stored in a barn at my mom's house . you can buy a
nice low mileage camaro now for cheap!!! search Craig list. I must say the car that I drive now
is a very nice car but its not the same as my first camaro and sometimes I wish that I restored
the convertible best of luck on whatever you do and welcome to the board

Yeah, I do very much like my Camaro. I wanted to keep my first car as something to fix up and drive for fun in my late 20s, 30s and beyond.

My original intention was going to be upping the 3.4 to a 5.7, and upgrading the interior to leather seats, etc. But, with that kind of engine swap meaning major work, a new transmission, and whatever else, it doesn't seem worth it right? Might as well buy a Z28 and just go from there I would think.

I don't want to put anymore money into the 3.4. What would be the point at 170,000 miles, with the car only being worth a couple thousand at most *without the issues!*.

Go on autotrader and start looking. there are some great deals for lt1 fbodies.
