Re: How many miles on your V6?
1996 A4 camaro
current = 171,xxx
purchased= 151,xxx
owned car 5 years and it runs good
problems I have had with it are as follows
1: alternator
2: waterpump
3: warping front rotors (on the 4th set now)
4: cat cover rattle
5: o2 sensors
6: shocks and struts
7: leaking oil (valve covers I thnink)
8: coil packs X2
9: had a wire rub through and short out on the firewall (the only thing I have not fixed my self)
10: and the biggest problem I have had and still have cause I have not done anything about it yet... the known and infamous 4l60e tranny slip. this has been going on for about 4 years now, but the car even with this problem is still trucking down the road. one of these days I am going to have to replace the trans but not yet.

Yes it's an old thread, I just found it while looking for some information. Update on my3.4.......246,370 miles on original engine. Replaced the water pump a while back, but that's about as far as I've been into the engine. Car still will spin second gear. This engine is bullet proof lol

102k miles, performed major tuneup at 95k miles... Sparkplugs, Wires, Coils, Air Filter... Running mobil 1 synthetic high milage oil. Never had an ENGINE problem with this car, but some things are in need of attention. Needed new brakes at about 90k miles and were replaced at 95k as well.
The ignition switch is about to die
The fuel pump in this car has died at 82k miles and was replaced
There is a vacuum leak somewhere in the fuel lines that throwing an SES code
---
Overall, like most GM cars, the motors and drivetrain are VERY strong. It isn't easy to blow a 3.8 up. There's some guys running turbo's ranging from 7 to 20 PSI and their STOCK motors are handling it just fine. Now would that be something I would do? I can't press my luck, which is why I'm performing an LSX swap this winter break
