'02 V6 Camaro tranny issue?

'02 V6 Camaro tranny issue?
First off, the car is an '02 Camaro, 3.8L, with 5 speed manual transmission. 64500 miles on the car/engine/tranny.
Today while driving home from work I was cruising in 5th gear. I went to change lanes to pass someone so I floored the gas pedal, to be met with an unresponsive acceleration and, for lack of a better description, "clunking" sound/feeling in the gas pedal. At first, due to the fact that the car wouldn't accelerate I thought maybe a clutch problem. But I took it to my friend who is a mechanic just to get another idea and he thinks that maybe there is a problem with a pump, he says when it's floored it feels underpowered but all the noise is coming from the tranny. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Re: '02 V6 Camaro tranny issue?
Turns out my car guy doesn't know too much about cars. I think he meant a fuel pump not a pump in the trans. At any rate, he was completely off. The check engine came on and it turns out I had a cylinder misfire in #5. Replaced the spark plugs and the 2/5 coil pack and it runs beautifully. Thanks for the response
