What are my odds?

So there is a guy around town with a subi wrx sti around an 04-06 model year that wants to run me in my car. My car is a 68 rs with a 95 lt1 and 6 speed swap I have 3.08 rear end gears right now soon to be 3.73 posi. Now my question is do I have a chance I know he will get outta the hole better but my car seems to pull pretty hard once it has traction.

Traction is key to any race. If you don't have a set of DR get them first then go play. Really depends on what is done to the WRX could be a close race if he's stock or could be a sad day for the 1st gen if he's not.

What's he done to it? If it's stock you may pull on the top end. If not, well... As long as he can drive he'll have a major advantage at the start. Have you done any mods on the LT1?

I ran a blown fox body from a 30 punch to ~ 120 and it was dead even. His reaction was the same as all the rest -- "What the hell is that thing?" Unfortunately it looks like I've spun a bearing (months after the event mentioned here) and I'm tired of messing with it so it's going to be sold soon. I need a car I'm not tempted to mod!

As far as my mods nothing major just emmision control equip gone and shorty headers. As far as his im not sure it looks stock but when he gets on it it does make a weird whoosh sound out of the exhaust not the typical turbo sound

I wish I had a car I did not have to smog in ca. If I were you I would have built that lt1 to a 383 with a gm 847 cam and heads. It will be close if he is stock; that sound you here is the blow off valve, if he has some mods it can get ugly for you fast.

Yeah the camaro is more of a driver didn't want anything to radical just a pretty quick car with good mpg... I have another lt1 and 6 speed its going to be in a car that mileage is the last priority so built 383 here I come haha

In my LS1 Camaro (performance figures in sig), I didn't have any trouble with an '05 STI I ran once. Walked away from him right from the start. I don't think he was a great driver, but I'm sure he thought otherwise.

I don't have any idea how fast an LT1 1st-gen would be, so it's really hard to say how you'll fare. STIs are AWD and geared really aggressively, so with your 3.08 rear he's going to get a big jump on you at the launch (unless he messes it up). You'll have to reel him in at the top end. How long of a race are we talking about? I doubt you can beat him to 60mph. You might still be reeling him in at the end of a quarter mile.

Do you have any idea what your traps might be? I don't know what a 1st gen weighs so I can't make a good guess. The STi will do ~ 103 mph stock and 108-109 with all the bolt-ons.

My family sedan did 116-117 on 93 octane judging by the datalogs but I never made it to the track. One day I had hoped to see race gas or E85 for some real fun.

That brings up a good point -- is E85 available in Cali? Turbo cars make stupid power on E85. It acts like 115+ octane fuel. You wanna be sure he hasn't got that in the tank for the run!

The guy keeps saying a 1/4 mile. As far as my traps I have no idea besides a few stoplight races I ran my dad once in his 71 datsun p/u with a stock 350 and was pretty much dead even. Everything I have read says a stock 1st gen weighs 2900 lbs. I have no idea where he would find e85 at I have never seen it at a station in so cal, but that doesn't mean its not around just haven't seen it... why is it e85 makes such a difference with turbo motors?

Some quick googling indicates that a '68 with the 350 weighed ~3090 lbs.

Weight is in your favor too, since the STi weighs at least 3300 + driver. I weigh 300 lbs so I absolutely ruin any car's power to weight ratio

E85 is a favorite for forced induction cars because it's just like running 115 octane. You almost can't knock on it no matter how much timing or boost you run. It's far cheaper than race gas even when you consider you have to use about 30% more fuel than you do on regular pump gas. There's only one station to buy it here but in some parts of the country it's everywhere. You can bet there are some stupidly fast cars there too.
